Bonne Terre city cleanup scheduled

The city of Bonne Terre has set the dates for their annual citywide cleanup. It will be held Oct. 22 through Nov. 2.

Bonne Terre City Administrator Shawn Kay said residents in town can call city hall to get on their list and their crews will pick it up during that time period. They will be working around other city duties.

“We will pick up their waste and get rid of it for them,” Kay said. “It is free of charge and is a bulk cleanup, so we are trying to pick up big items that folks don’t have a way of disposing. We do not pick up paint, batteries, tires, appliances such as refrigerators and freezers with the compressors still intact. We also won’t pick up chemicals.”

He added they hold a bulk trash pickup twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Kay explained that it is in their ordinance book that they are supposed to do that.

“Every time we do it we give the council an option of when they might want to do that and they decided on Oct. 22 through Nov. 2,” Kay said. “It gives people in the community a chance to clean up around their homes to help keep our city clean. The city felt it is a worthwhile service because not everyone has a pickup truck to haul off larger items.”
