Human remains found in St. Francois County

Human remains were discovered on private property on Indian Creek Road Sunday afternoon.

St. Francois County Captain Greg Armstrong said the remains have not been identified at this time.

Armstrong confirmed that a pickup truck owned by Terry Hedrick, 55, of Salem, was found on the same piece of property last week. Hedrick has been missing since May 20.

Armstrong said the property owner found the bones at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday and contacted authorities. Firearms were found with the remains.

Armstrong said it is too early to say if the death was suspicious, again adding no official identification has been made. A time for the autopsy/examination has not yet been scheduled.

Hedrick’s family reported Hedrick missing and say he was last seen on May 20. They were contacted Sunday with information that a body had been found near where Hedrick’s truck had been found.

Law enforcement officers were also looking for Hedrick for an incident that allegedly occurred May 20 in the 2400 block of Route N in St. Francois County.

Hedrick was charged with a class B felony of assault in the first degree, two charges of felony armed criminal action, a class B felony of unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor peace disturbance.

According to a probable cause statement from the St. Francois County Prosecutor’s Office, on May 20 the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department was called to Route N for a disturbance that involved shots being fired by Hedrick who was pointing the gun and making threats. Both victims were able to run into the woods and were waiting for help to arrive. No one had been hit by the gunfire and Hedrick fled the scene.

Human remains have been located near where Terry Hedrick's vehicle was found last week.
