MACFlix features ‘Poltergeist’

PARK HILLS, Mo. – MACFlix, the Mineral Area College movie club, concludes its 7th annual “MACFlix Drive-In Nights” Saturday evening, Oct. 6 at 7:30 pm in the Mineral Area College quadrangle (grassy area located in the center of campus). The last movie of the season will be “Poltergeist,” rated PG.

Admission is free to all, but MACFlix asks that everyone bring blankets and/or lawn chairs as their seating choice in the quadrangle. Some concessions will be available, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks.

MACFlix presents all films in their original, large, widescreen format with Blu-ray quality visuals and an outstanding sound system.

This Spielberg movie was an immense hit when it came out. Strange and creepy happenings beset an average California family, the Freelings — Steve (Craig T. Nelson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), teenaged Dana, eight-year-old Robbie, and five-year-old Carol Ann — when ghosts commune with them through the television set. Initially friendly and playful, the spirits turn unexpectedly menacing, and, when Carol Ann goes missing, Steve and Diane turn to a parapsychologist and eventually an exorcist for help.

This year’s MACFlix theme was entitled, “1980’s Fun Flicks!” For six consecutive weekends (every Saturday in September and the first Saturday of October), MACFlix presented a hit motion picture from the decade of the 1980’s on it’s large, outdoor, movie screen beginning just after sunset.

Dr. Kevin White, sponsor of MACFlix, said a new movie series will begin in a few months, with a new theme to be unveiled. Those movies are generally shown in the MAC Fine Arts Theater.
