Blair found guilty

A Washington County jury deliberated an hour before finding a Potosi man guilty of felony unlawful use of a firearm.

The jury found Scotty Gene Blair not guilty of two other charges.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 28 before Circuit Court Judge Wendy Wexler Horn. The jury recommended a sentence of six months in the county jail and a fine to be determined by the judge.

According to court records, Blair was told that somebody was on his property on the evening of Aug. 5, 2017. Blair retrieved a Marlin .22 caliber rifle from inside his home and went to investigate.

A 17-year-old male had stopped his vehicle on Highway 185 to check on a vehicle that had just been involved in an accident. Blair allegedly shouted at the motorist and asked him why he was stealing from his property, then fired a shot in his direction.

The 17-year-old male dove to the ground and tried explaining to Blair why he was there. Blair continued shouting and fired three more shots before telling the teen to get out of the area.
