The West County National Honor Society will be hosting a 5K Color Run on Saturday starting at Re/Max, located at 1599 St. Francois Road in Terre Du Lac.
Sponsored by Unico Bank, County Mart and El Tapatio, the participants will travel to Lac Marseilles and then back up the hill that leads to it. Unico and County Mart will donate water, and El Tapatio will donate a gift card to be awarded as a prize.
The cost is $20 to register for the color run, with registration at 8 a.m., and the run starting at 9 a.m. Entrants can register earlier by going to the West County R-IV Facebook page and clicking on the banner if they want to be guaranteed a white shirt to start the run with.
“Every year we pick a charity and we give all of our proceeds to that charity,” NHS Sponsor Crystal Cavelli said. “This year we haven’t chosen one yet; usually we let the kids know how much we have and then they decide where we want to put that money.”
Last year they gave their money to a fellow teacher who was undergoing cancer treatment, and a couple years ago they donated money to hurricane relief in Texas. They raised about $600 last year.
A color run is like a typical 5K, except with a twist. At four different points, NHS students will spray a “powdered paint” on the runners.
“Everybody will appear sort of tie-dyed at the end,” she said.
Each station will have a different color.
“Walkers are welcome, too,” she added.
This year there will be entry prizes of gift cards drawn at random and medals awarded for the top three runners.
