Seven-day road closure begins soon
As the Desloge Drive project continues to progress, a complete road closure is coming and is scheduled to last for seven days.
Beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Desloge Drive will be closed from the Grant Street and Hawthorne Street to Oak Street. The project is anticipated to be completed and the road re-opened by May 15.
Vehicles will be detoured off of Desloge Drive onto Grant Street and will be able to re-enter Desloge Drive at Oak Street.
Public Works Director Jason Harris said that the closure is necessary to install a new box culvert that crosses the road in that area that channels storm water from the east side of town.
In addition, crews will be relocating a water main as well as some sewer lines during the closure.
Harris said that he hopes the project will be shorter than the seven-day window, but said that it is always hard to be sure on a project like this.
“I can not stress enough that big trucks need to stay out of the area and use the prescribed route for trucks which is Parkway Drive and through the industrial park to Taylor Avenue,” said Harris. “There is no room for large trucks to make the turns on these side streets coming off of Grant Street.”
Harris also said that residents who live in the closure area will be able to get to and from their homes, but individuals who do not live in the area should use the prescribed detour.

Desloge Drive will be closed from 6 a.m. on Wednesday until 6 a.m. on May 15 from Hawthorne Street to Oak Street. City officials say motorists should plan accordingly.
