Police: Man ends his life in police department parking lot

A male committed suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound in the Farmington Police Department parking lot just before 5 p.m. Friday, according to Farmington Police Chief Rick Baker.

Baker said the man was rumored to have had terminal cancer. It is unclear why he chose the police department’s parking lot as the location to end his life.

County Coroner Jim Coplin was called to the scene and the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department is assisting in the investigation.

Editor’s Note: The Daily Journal does not report on suicides unless the death occurs in a public location.
