In the late morning hours on Tuesday, St. Francois County Dispatch received a report of a possible child drowning in Lake Hanna near Highway 221 in the southwest corner of St. Francois County.
Police and paramedics responded to a home on Fontana Drive.
Upon arrival, first responders found an unresponsive 5-year-old, later identified as Kaiden Rowley.
Rowley was transported to Iron County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. No foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Investigators say Rowley was with other relatives at a lake lot cabin. It is reported that everyone was sleeping when the boy woke up on his own and left the cabin.
When it was discovered Rowley was not in the cabin, relatives began searching. The boy was reportedly found in the water, in a cove, unresponsive.
Detective Lt. Matt Wampler with the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department was in charge of the investigation.
