Shooting Investigation in Farmington

Updated — by Jeannie Barton-Northrup

In a second press release issued Thursday, the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department says Jackie Lynn Baldwin Jr., 43, was shot and killed just after 2 a.m. Thursday in his home in the 2500 block of H Highway near Farmington.

Police say the shooting occurred after a domestic violence incident that began several hours earlier on Wednesday evening and continued throughout the night. According to investigators, Baldwin’s wife, 37, said she shot her husband after he retrieved a gun and threatened to kill her. The wife allegedly told police Baldwin was drunk and told her multiple times during the evening he intended to kill her. Accusations of prior domestic assaults committed against herself and other girlfriends allegedly caused Baldwin’s wife to fear for her life.

After the shooting, both Baldwin and his wife called 911 for medical assistance. Baldwin died while on the phone with 911 operators before medical aid arrived. St. Francois County is still investigating. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review. No charges have been filed at this time.
