MAC blanks South Suburban 5-0
PARK HILLS – Orran Mushet tallied a goal plus two assists, and the Mineral Area men’s soccer team shut out South Suburban 5-0 to cap a strong opening weekend on Sunday.
Farmington graduate Cade Blackmon netted his first collegiate goal while Jack Taylor, Tom Walton and Josh Somerville also scored for the Cardinals.
Josh Wilson made five saves, and substitute keeper Pedro Jarvie combined for a clean sheet. The MAC offense produced 26 attempted shots and six corner chances.
Mineral Area (2-0) grabbed the lead when Mushet converted a penalty kick in the 11th minute. He also had the team’s first marker against Itawamba on Saturday.

The advantage remained 1-0 through intermission, and Taylor finished a pass from Mushet less than two minutes into the second half.
Chris Williamson assisted Walton four minutes later for a 3-0 margin, and Blackmon scored off a feed from Chalon Domian in the 65th.
Despite changing to an earlier noon kickoff, the contest was played in temperatures nearing triple digits. Mineral Area opens MCCAC and Region 16 action on Aug. 30 at State Fair.
