The Park Hills Senior Nutrition Center is seeking sponsors for its Cruising for a Cause fundraiser, set for Oct. 7
Sponsorship helps raise money to provide area senior citizens with food through the Meals on Wheels program. Anyone who would like to be a sponsor can contact Holly Buxton, senior center director, at 573-431-4974 or via Facebook at Park Hills Senior Center.
“Sponsorship is down this year,” Buxton said recently. “Please, if you are a business owner or want to give in memory/honor of someone, message or call me. The meal program is so vital to our community. The only way to grow is to have successful fundraisers to help with the staggering cost of food. If you want to donate or become a sponsor, please let me know.”
Not only are sponsors helping to feed the community, but donations are tax deductible, and sponsor names will appear on T-shirts, banners, and advertising. Vendor applications are also available on the Park Hills Senior Center Facebook page.

Cruising for a Cause is scheduled for Oct. 7. The main event will occur in downtown Park Hills. Several bands will perform on the municipal parking lot stage. Food trucks and vendors will be on hand for shopping and munching. Also planned is a Halloween parade, a car show, a kid’s area, and more. Hayrides will go through the Haunted Columbia Park from 6-9 p.m.
The Senior Center is a not-for-profit organization located at 224 W. Main St., Park Hills, that supplies meals to approximately 185 homebound seniors in Park Hills, Desloge, Leadington and Leadwood areas. The center is also open for onsite meals. Buxton says the center provides nearly 1,500 meals weekly.
Seniors are encouraged to come to the center for something to eat and monthly entertainment, including arts, crafts, games, and entertainment. For more information about the Senior Center, call 573-431-4974 or visit their website at Senior Nutrition Center or their Facebook page at Park Hills Senior Center.
The center has received a number of awards including:
- The SEMO AAA Star Award; presented to Director Holly Buxton and Volunteer Rose Ball
- A two-time winner of the States Innovative Idea Award
- A two-time winner of the Citizen of the Year Award & The 110% Award
Buxton credits the awards to the caring staff, volunteers, and incredible seniors. Anyone who would like to be part of the award-winning team as a volunteer should contact Buxton. Volunteers are always welcome and needed for route drivers, packers, and desk help.
