LeeRoy Calvert

BONNE TERRE – LeeRoy Calvert, age 79, of Bonne Terre passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. He was born on Saturday, October 23, 1943, in Bonne Terre to the late Clarence C. and Myrtle M. (Scott) Calvert, Jr.

LeeRoy was a 1961 graduate from Bonne Terre High School. In June of 1962, he signed up with the United States Navy where he served 1 year at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick, Georgia, and served 2 ½ years on the on the USS North Hampton, known as the Presidential Warship and received an Honorable discharge in October of 1964.

He worked for several businesses delivering bread and milk from 1964-1968. On October 5, 1968, he married Joyce Goff. He worked for Merchants Wholesale as a salesman for 12 years and then worked in management for 25 years for Coca-Cola. LeeRoy was a member of Jaycees in Bonne Terre, served as a Councilman in Bonne Terre for 10 years and as the Mayor of Bonne Terre for 2 years. He had a 6 year term on the St. Francois County Ambulance District and volunteered on the Bonne Terre Fire Department, Bonne Terre Police Auxiliary and the Ozark Fire Fighters Association.

He organized and created a committee to provide flags at the Bonne Terre Cemetery for the flag memorial in Memory of Ted Boyer. Chairman of the committee for the 2nd Tornado siren in Bonne Terre and Co-chaired Heritage Day for many years in Bonne Terre. LeeRoy was a character if you met him, you liked him. He never met a stranger. He was always telling funny stories and jokes.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Martin and Eleanor Goff; brothers-in-law, Gregory Goff and Gary Dryden.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Joyce A. (Goff) Calvert; two sons, Douglas Calvert of Bonne Terre and Jeffery (wife Lana) of Tennessee; two grandchildren, Christine and Gracelyn Calvert; two sisters, Billie Jean (husband Mike) Sheeran and Ethel Dryden; brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” (wife Becki) Goff; sister-in-law, Susan Goff.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre from 12 p.m. until service time of 2 p.m. with Rev. Randy Murphy officiating. Burial to follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials can be directed to BackStoppers, Shop with a Cop or Serenity Hospice.     sorry for the loss of you dad! he was a great person and I remember him from kids till now! he will be missed.
