The Fredericktown High School football team lost 14-0, Friday, at Herculaneum.

The Fredericktown defense kept the game close with several stops throughout the game. The Cats got the opening kickoff but were unable to move the ball on their first drive of the game. After a Carter Cheaney punt flipped the field, Herculaneum started at its own 35.  The home team went 37 yards to the FHS 28-yard line before Fredericktown made a big stop on fourth down.

The Fredericktown offense had a big chance following a bad snap on Herculaneum punt. The Cats started at the 20 yard line, but was stopped on fourth and five at the 15.

Alan Kopitsky, Democrat News LeeAndrea Catchings eludes a Herculaneum tackler on his way to a 39-yard gain.

Herculaneum took over with just 40.2 seconds left in the first quarter and drove methodically down the field, using almost the entire second quarter. Herculaneum drove 85 yards on 20 plays. Offensive lineman Shea Eberhardt scored on third and goal from the Fredericktown five to make it 6-0 with 58.6 seconds left in the half. Fredericktown blocked the extra point and it was 6-0 at halftime.

In the third quarter, neither team was able to move the football. Fredericktown threatened to tie the game or take the lead midway through the fourth quarter. The Cats drove to the Herculaneum 24 yard line thanks in large part to a 39-yard catch and run by LeeAndrea Catchings. A fumble ended the drive.

Herculaneum scored with 5:02 to play and a 2-point conversion made it 14-0.

For the game, the Cats got 22 yards rushing from quarterback Noland Holland. Holland also completed four of nine passes for 48 yards. Catchings caught three passes for 44 yards. On defense, Ethan Marler led with 14 tackles. DJ Baca had 11. Dane Sensel, Mason Proffer, and Donnie Laut IV each had ten.

The Cats play their third straight road game, Friday against Valle, in Ste. Genevieve.
