Administrators at Fredericktown R-1 School District say they are grateful for the school’s resource officers (SROs) and staff after a firearm incident on school grounds Thursday.
“Today, Sept 14, a situation occurred at Fredericktown Alternative School which required staff to intervene and stop a student from a self-harm action,” a release from the school said. “A firearm was involved in the incident but was not discharged.”
The statement said the student was disarmed without any injuries. Law enforcement, school administration, and counselors responded immediately and are providing continued support.
“Please know that all students and staff are safe and the school crisis plan has been fully executed,” the statement said. “The alternative building is no longer in lockdown and classes have resumed.”
Assistant Superintendent Shannon Henson said the school district is very thankful for the response of the SROs and the Fredericktown Police Department.
“We are especially thankful for the actions of our alternative school staff, which took place before law enforcement could respond,” Henson said.
The school is located at 347 N. Chamber Dr.
