Wednesday Roundup: Ste. Gen. absorbs early AV push for road victory

IRONTON – The Ste. Genevieve volleyball team shook off a strong start by Arcadia Valley on Wednesday to secure a 20-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-14 road victory.
Kale Clements spiked 18 kills and defended with three blocks and eight digs for the Dragons. Kailynn Harmon knocked down 13 kills while equaling Kailyn Fallert with four blocks each.
Joleigh Parker served six big aces, and compiled 20 assists, two blocks and six digs while matching fellow setter/hitter Sophia Huck with five kills apiece.
Ste. Genevieve (4-7) also got nine kills, two aces and six digs from Emma Gegg. Huck dished out a team-high 28 assists, and added three aces with two blocks.
Abby Boyer made eight digs, and Grace Joggerst served two aces in the win.
Arcadia Valley (6-5-1) was paced offensively by Kayla Sumpter with 10 kills, 14 digs and 13 service points, and Cate Newstead-Adams with eight kills, 10 digs and seven points.
Taylor Lorenz amassed 26 assists and 11 points, and middle Skylar Romines made two block with five kills. Paige Newstead-Adams chipped in four kills, 10 digs and nine points for the Lady Tigers.
SOFTBALL
Jackson 9, Farmington 1
JACKSON, Mo. – Ashlyn Dawes twirled a four-hitter and struck out six as Jackson defeated Farmington 9-1 in a SEMO Conference softball showdown on Wednesday.
Kameryn Tucker finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, and Madalyn Stelling homered as the Indians tallied 11 hits against Knights ace Elly Robbins.
Dawes helped her own cause at the plate by going 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Kaiden Weisbrod stole three bases and matched Stelling at 2-for-4 to bolster Jackson (17-2, 2-0).
Shelby Bowling belted a solo home run in the top of the sixth for Farmington (7-5, 2-1). Emilee Gillam, Jocelyn Grimes and Olivia Hartupee contributed singles.
Consecutive RBI singles by Tucker and Stelling made it 4-0 in the third inning. Stelling went deep in the fifth, and Miley Conklin singled for a 7-1 lead before Tucker doubled home two more.
Robbins pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and two walks allowed in the loss.
Notre Dame 3, North County 1
BONNE TERRE – Jacie Smith finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Notre Dame edged North County 3-1 in conference action after both defenses were error free on Wednesday.
The visiting Bulldogs notched single tallies in the third, fifth and seven frames against senior right-hander Sammy Waller, who made a quality start in defeat.
Madi Carroll sliced a 2-0 deficit in half with an RBI double in the sixth inning. Bailey Wimmer, Autumn Bullock, Addi Goggin, Kensey Marler and Waller also contributed hits for North County (2-7, 1-4).
Waller allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out two while going the distance on 85 pitches.
GIRLS TENNIS
North County 8, Festus 1
BONNE TERRE – Kinley Tracy rolled through her No. 3 singles match in the minimum number of games, and North County beat Festus 8-1 to stay undefeated on Wednesday.
Lucy Pace and Camille Skaggs highlighted a doubles sweep by the Lady Raiders with a shutout, and Chloe Roach paired with Claire Scott to win 8-1.
Alli Scott joined Pace, Skaggs, Claire Scott and Tracy as two-time winners for North County (9-0).
Windsor salvaged a closely contested 9-7 triumph by Lilly Besore against Roach.
