The final bows have been taken for Mineral Area Fine Arts Academy’s most recent production, “Harvey.” Now it’s time for auditions for the next performance.

Auditions for “Meet Me in St. Louis” are set for Sunday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. in the Mineral Area College Fine Arts Theater.

According to MAFAA Theater Director Jason Carr, this show is set in the winter of 1903 and spring 1904 and follows the story of a family who is preparing for Christmas. They’re having a party for a family member who is leaving for college. The family is also excited for the upcoming 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.

“There are lots of familiar songs, a wonderful story about young love, family and celebration,” said Carr. “This show will be loads of fun.”

“Meet Me in St. Louis” is a classic romantic musical comedy that’s upbeat and family-friendly.

The “Meet Me in St. Louis” cast will consist of 18 named characters ranging in age from 6 to 80. Many ensemble members are also needed, from trolley passengers and party-goers to ballroom dancers and Christmas carolers.

Anyone who plans to audition for “Meet Me in St. Louis” will need a prepared one-minute vocal audition with accompaniment on a Bluetooth device. No backing vocals on the accompaniment are allowed.

“Choose a song that best suits your range, vocal style and the character you desire to be,” said Carr. “I ask that you not audition with a song from the show you’re auditioning for.”

In addition, those who are auditioning are asked to wear comfortable clothes and shoes in which they can dance. No Crocs, flip flops or sandals are allowed.

“Meet Me in St. Louis” will be performed Nov. 30 through Dec. 3 at MAC’s Fine Arts Theater.
