Potosi prison inmate escapes from hospital

A Missouri Department of Corrections inmate housed at the Potosi Correctional Center escaped from custody early Thursday morning while receiving treatment at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis.
Tommy Wayne Boyd, 45, is serving a 30-year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections for statutory sodomy of a child as a result of a 2007 case out of Green County.
Boyd is described by SLCPD as a white male, 5-foot, 7-inches tall, 154 pounds, with balding hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black jacket, and orange slippers.

He should be considered dangerous. It is unknown whether he is armed. Anyone seeing Boyd should immediately call 911. Residents are urged to be aware of their surroundings.
Investigators ask that anyone with information regarding the incident contact SLCPD at 636-529-8210 to speak to investigators. Anyone having information about the incident who chooses to remain anonymous or potentially receive a reward should contact CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS(8477).
On Thursday morning, the St. Louis County Police Department (SLCPD) released a statement that “officers are investigating an escape from custody incident.”
“At 4:30 a.m., on Sept. 21, 2023, officers from the Affton Southwest Precinct responded to Mercy Hospital South in the 10000 block of Kennerly Road, St. Louis, Missouri, for a report of an escape from custody,” reads the announcement.
According to the statement, Boyd was transported to Mercy Hospital South from the Potosi Correctional Facility Wednesday for medical treatment.
The press release from SLCPD states, “He was last seen at approximately 3:54 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, by hospital personnel. Surveillance video shows Boyd leaving the hospital on foot, traveling in an unknown direction.”
