It’s art for a great cause.
Mineral Area Council on the Arts, Mineral Area College’s art department and the MAC Foundation are teaming up for a third time with their MAC Night Paint & Sip event.
For $15, anyone can participate in the paint night event on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 6-8 p.m. at The Bullpen, located at 1500 E. Main in Leadington.
Although it’s not required, participants are urged to register online before the event at
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeyBBbxw1VjFMUdXDUXsru2Zh26PqgtnAcPXZctoR9zwuNRYw/viewform to help in preparing painters’ canvases and supplies. The pre-registration link is also located on MACOA’s Facebook page.
This is the third of several paint night events to be held at The Bullpen. Money raised from each event goes to various charities and organizations. All money raised from Tuesday’s event goes to the MAC Art Club to help purchase art supplies.
These paint and sip events are a community partnership between Mineral Area Council on the Arts, Mineral Area College’s art department and MAC Foundation. These three groups are providing their knowledge on supplies, connecting artists to the event, and organizing efforts and promotion. The Bullpen is hosting and promoting the event as well.
“These events are not only fun, but they are also very affordable and will raise money for a local cause,” said Tiffany Gallaher, executive director for MACOA. “The money raised from these events goes to various MAC and community organizations.”
The $15 fee for MAC Night Paint & Sip includes supplies for painting. Attendees may purchase food and drinks at The Bullpen during the event. Those with a valid MAC ID pay only $10 for each paint night.
The paint night events are held every other Tuesday and include different themes. The money raised from each night goes to a different MAC or community organization.
The idea for this collaboration came from The Bullpen owner Nick Basinger. He wanted to find new ways to bring community organizations together for a good cause.
Gallaher and MAC instructor Abril Warner are combining MACOA and the MAC art department’s resources to sponsor the event with the MAC Foundation.
The Oct. 10 event will be led by Chyna Estes, who led the first paint night. She is a former MAC art student and will teach participants how to paint a Halloween scene with a spooky cat and a full moon. Funds raised on Oct. 10 go to the MAC Art Club.
For the Oct. 24 event, former MAC art student Tim Ames will lead paint night. He is creating a skull image for Halloween. Funds raised at this event go to the local American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Krissie Ketcherside will lead the Nov. 14 paint night with a fall theme.
Paint nights take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. Upcoming dates include Oct. 10 and Oct. 24, Nov. 14 and 28, and Dec. 12. More dates will be held again in January.
For the first event, the organizations donated $200 to the MAC Food Pantry. The second paint night earned $185 for the MAC cheerleaders to help with purchasing uniforms.
Gallaher said the three organizations are grateful for the community’s support at their paint nights as well as The Bullpen’s servers and bartenders for being so accommodating during the events.
Regardless of the theme for each paint night, Gallaher knows each event is an opportunity for the community to come together to have fun, be creative and raise money for a great cause.
“We expect a great crowd and know it’s going to be a great time,” she said.
