At the Annual Pink Out Night, the Fredericktown High School volleyball team recognizes 2000 FHS graduate and cancer survivor Mark Stumbaugh, his wife Marcy, daughters Brittney, Paige and Paislee along with other members of the Stumbaugh family.

The Fredericktown High School volleyball team held its annual Pink Out Night, Oct. 3. Each year the team chooses a member of the community to celebrate them and their victories on their journey to beat cancer. This year, they selected Mark Stumbaugh, a 2000 graduate of Fredericktown High School, to honor on this special night.

Mark, his wife Marcy, three daughters Brittney, Paige and Paislee were recognized along with other members of the Stumbaugh family joining the team onto the court for a photo.

In March, Mark underwent a brain biopsy and was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor called a high grade glioblastoma, grade 4. Shortly after in May he began radiation and chemotherapy pills for six weeks. After a follow-up MRI in July doctors decided to surgically remove as much of the tumor as possible.

The surgery was performed on Aug. 17, and the neurosurgeon said that he removed as much of the tumor as he possibly could.  Mark will continue taking a chemotherapy pill for five nights each month, for approximately a year.

As a fundraising effort, the volleyball team sold “Pink Out Shirts.” The sales allowed the Lady Cats Volleyball team to present Mark and his family with a check for $500.

“Mark from the LadyCats volleyball team and the entire FredRock community, we thank you for being an inspiration to everyone and showing us what determination and fight truly look like,” FHS assistant principal Derrick Eaves said.

Mark’s dedication to local sports for at least 20 years has inspired the local softball leagues to sell raffle tickets in an effort to help offset Stumbaugh’s expenses.

According to Kevin Kemp, Stumbaugh has given a lot to Fredericktown softball in many capacities along with being a friend and a great guy.

Raffle tickets for the Mark Stumbaugh Fundraiser are being sold for $1 each or 6 for $5 and will be available at Jaycee Park on Monday nights. The raffle will be a tiered drawing with multiple winners.

The drawing will be at 8:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30, at Jaycee Park Field 1, during the annual Halloween theme night.

Raffle grand prize will be 50/50 or if desired to donate back, the winner will receive a choice of three of the sponsored raffle items.

The softball league is looking for donations such as merchandise, business services, gift certificates etc.
