ELGIN, Ill. – Orran Mushet netted four goals during an explosive stretch on Thursday as the Mineral Area men’s soccer team capped its best regular season with a road blowout.
Alex Wilkinson, Shay Carey and Tom Walton also scored, and starting keeper Josh Wilson picked up another win as the ninth-ranked Cardinals rolled past Elgin 7-1 on Thursday.
Oliver Brennan notched two assists, and Carey set up the opening tally by WIlkinson before finished the next scoring play for a 2-0 edge.
Mushet bumped his team-high goal count to 10 for the season off passes from Chalon Domian, Brennan, Lucas Clarke and Wilkson for a 6-1 lead.
Leo Mendez earned the final assist to Walton late.
Mineral Area (12-1-2) will carry a three-match win streak as MCCAC champions into the Region 16 tournament with home-field advantage as the top seed.
The Cardinals will face either Metropolitan or St. Charles in the semifinal round on Tuesday.
