The GFWC Friday Club met October 20 at New Providence Baptist Church on a lovely fall day.
The informal part of the meeting began with a prayer by Janet Ward, followed by a luncheon provided by hostesses, Nenita Taliban and Linda Hogan. They served several delicious varieties of sandwiches along with chips and dip, fruit salad, fresh apple cake and hot spiced tea or iced tea. The members were also treated to pumpkin-shaped containers of candy treats.
The business meeting started with the pledges of the U.S. and Missouri flags, followed by the approval of the reading of the minutes by Linda Hogan. The treasury report was given and approved as read by Carolyn Kegley. She also read a thank you from Carol Stephens, secretary of Kelly A. Burlison Middle School, thanking Friday Club for its donation to the Cat Pack program, which provides food for the weekend to students when needed.
With new business, the club voted to make a donation in October to the senior center. After all other business was taken care of, the meeting continued with a devotional given by Linda Hogan. It was based on Ecclesiastes 3:12, “I know there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.” She relayed a story reminding all that they should remember their spiritual blessings and also be thankful for all the simple pleasures we are blessed with in life.
The next Friday club meeting will be Nov. 17 with Sasha Starkey and Mellie Bentinganan serving as hostesses. All members will contribute to the devotional.
