Blackcats open season in Thanksgiving Tournament

The Fredericktown High school boys basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with a victory in the first round of the 97th Annual Arcadia Valley Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Cats, seeded fifth, defeated No. 4 seed Clearwater, 66-50, Nov. 21, at Arcadia Valley High School.

Fredericktown jumped to a 20-15 first quarter lead as senior Zander Stephens knocked down four of the Cats’ six 3-pointers in the quarter. Stephens had 19 points at the break and the Cats led 34-22. FHS increased its lead to 50-35 entering the final period.

Stephens led the Cats with 26 points. Leandrea Catchings scored12, Brayden McMinn had eight points, Blake Terry-Brakefield scored five, Ocar Millan, Tim Desanto, and Miguel Millan each scored four, and Caleb Feltz had three.

Wednesday, the Cats lost 55-31 to top seed and eventual tourney champ South Iron. Stephens led the Cats with ten points. Feltz scored nine, Terry-Brakefield scored five, Oscar Millan had three, and McMinn and Desanto each scored two.

Fredericktown lost the third place game to host Arcadia Valley, 50-40, Thursday. Terry-Brakefield and Stephens led the scoring with nine points, each. Catchings had seven, McMinn and Desanto each scored four, Miguel Millan scored three, and Braysen Reagan and Feltz each scored two.

The Cats play their home opener, Monday against Kingston.
