Now that Nicholson Mechanical Contractors of Farmington let the cat out of the bag on Facebook, The Daily Journal can confirm that it shouldn’t be too long before Farmington residents will see construction begin on a Chick-fil-A restaurant at the soon-to-be-former site of OfficeMax, which is in the process of closing.
The store is located right off US 67 North at the Highway 32 Farmington exit, between Schnucks, a small strip mall, and Pasta House.
According to information provided by Chick-fil-A to Nicolson Mechanical Contractors, the city’s newest restaurant will be 5,773 square feet once completed. The deadline given by Chick-fil-A, Inc. for submitting bids to perform the OfficeMax demolition and Chick-fil-A construction is March 26 — just 14 days away.
While there has been some confusion in the past 24 hours about Chick-fil-A’s current status in the process, the Daily Journal contacted Chick-fil-A’s corporate office on Tuesday and received a written response later that day from Liz Byrne, who handles new restaurant public relations for the company.
Byrne writes, “While we are still early in the process, Chick-fil-A is happy to share that we are actively pursuing a new restaurant in Farmington, located at 941 Valley Creek Drive. We look forward to working through the approval process with the City of Farmington and are excited by the prospect of joining this community.
“Each locally owned and operated restaurant creates 80–120 jobs in the area. We hope to have the opportunity to serve new guests delicious food in an environment of genuine hospitality. Chick-fil-A History
According to the company, founder S. Truett Cathy started the business in 1946 when he and his brother, Ben, opened an Atlanta diner known as The Dwarf Grill (later renamed The Dwarf House). Over the years, that restaurant prospered, leading Cathy to further the success of his business. In 1967, Cathy founded and opened the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in Atlanta’s Greenbriar Shopping Center.
Today, Chick-fil-A has the highest same-store sales and is the largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in the United States based on annual system-wide sales. Cathy’s family has continued his tradition of leadership, including his son Dan, who was appointed as the company’s CEO in 2013, and grandson Andrew, who serves as the current Chick-fil-A CEO.
Cathy, who died Sept. 8, 2014, at age 93, was the author of six books and was a committed philanthropist dedicated to making a difference in the lives of youth. He was the recipient of countless awards over the years, both for his business acumen and for his charity.
With his wife of 65 years, Jeannette McNeil Cathy, he was known for leading a life centered on biblical principles and family. He is survived by his sons Dan T. and Don “Bubba” Cathy; daughter Trudy Cathy White; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
