The Farmington Kentucky Fried Chicken, 627 Walmart Drive, burglarized sometime between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday is now the focus of an active investigation by the Farmington Police Department.
According to the store’s manager, Kayla Curdt, the burglary was discovered when the morning shift arrived on Wednesday morning. The store opened about an hour and a half later than normal to allow the officers to conduct their investigation.
“About $200 was taken from the cash drawers, and they took our camera monitor,” she said. “I heard that Walmart found the person. They looked at their security video and saw someone walking out of that store with a monitor, so they’re investigating it.”
Farmington Police Chief Chris Bullock said, “Officers arrived on-scene after receiving a call at 11:30 a.m. [Wednesday] reporting theft of cash. KFC’s video system was tampered with, so we didn’t have the typical video evidence we normally have to work with. No employees or customers were present at the time, and there were no injuries to report.”
Bullock said that Walmart’s security video was helpful in identifying a person of interest in the burglary. Noting that there are “too many cameras in the world to not get caught on one of them, no matter how hard you try.”
According to Bullock, an individual had been arrested in conjunction with the theft, but formal charges had not yet been filed as of around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
“This is still under investigation, so I can’t release a lot of information,” he said. “We’re not sure if there are more individuals involved, but we do know there was at least one and that person has been taken into custody.”
