A Saturday afternoon brush fire initially reported as involving less than an acre of land ended up spreading rapidly to encompass 15 acres.
Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, the Bismarck Fire Protection District responded to a call reporting a quarter-acre brush fire on Simms Road in Park Hills.
According to the fire district, when units arrived on the scene, the fire had already spread to cover 10 acres and was continuing to move rapidly due to low humidity and gusty winds in the area.

This resulted in eight additional fire departments being called in to help contain and put out the blaze: the Park Hills Fire Department, Doe Run Fire Protection District, Leadington Fire Department, Farmington Fire Department, Irondale Fire Protection District, Pilot Knob Fire Protection District, Potosi Fire Protection District and Desloge Fire Department.
The fire district reported that, with the combined efforts of the nine fire departments and property owners, the brush fire was brought under control, with 15 acres burned.
