The long-awaited Dollar General DG Market has opened in Bonne Terre’s Bonneville Plaza.
Located on the site of the former Don Hawk grocery store, which was demolished to make way for the new store, the new business is approximately 5,700 square feet, well-lit, and has generous parking.
As you walk into the store, the first thing you’ll notice is that the grocery section is in the middle of the building, with traditional Dollar General merchandise on the sides and to the rear of the food products.
Customers will find fresh produce and a fresh meat section, buffered by frozen foods and other refrigerated items. On the aisles parallel to the fresh produce, shoppers will find those grocery items that are nonperishable.
“Our hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week,” said Dawn Datillo, the store’s general manager. The only day we are closed is Christmas. We are a full-service grocery store.” The store has 12 full-time employees, an increase over the six workers employed at the previous store.
According to Datillo, since opening Thursday afternoon, the new market has been “extremely busy.”
The opening of the DG Mart is the start of what is hoped to be a rejuvenation of the Bonneville Plaza shopping area in Bonne Terre. While several other businesses are in negotiations, it can be announced that RayColes coffee shop plans to expand into the plaza with a drive-through location, tentatively opening this fall.
