St. Francois County Sheriff Dan Bullock and Laura Henson, president of St. Francois County Shop With A Cop, received a check for $1155 from District Manager of Circulation Terri Devoto Schneider on behalf of the Daily Journal.
The newspaper donated $15 from each paid annual subscription to the Daily Journal beginning at Thanksgiving and continuing through Christmas.
The largest of its kind in the nation, the St. Francois County Shop With A Cop program was first held in December 1993.
Accepting the check, Sheriff Bullock said, “It’s a dang shame that there’s a need for it here. But we’re certainly glad to help. It’s the best thing we can do all year for the officers and the kids. We’ve had officers who were recipients, and they grew up and went to the academy and are police officers now and are now involved on the other side. It’s great!”
This December will mark the 31st anniversary of the Shop With A Cop in St. Francois County. While the need will always be there, the program will continue to help make a happy holiday for local children.
