“Show Me Sci-Fi Space” takes place at The Space Museum and Grissom Center in Bonne Terre on June 28. Pam Clifton

It’s the ultimate celebration of the iconic sci-fi universes that have captured people’s imaginations for generations, and it’s taking place right here in the Parkland. The Space Museum and Grissom Center in Bonne Terre presents its latest installment of Show Me Space 2025 with “Show Me Sci-Fi Space.”
Museum founder and president Earl Mullins said the upcoming event is going to be a one-of-a-kind and especially affordable event for the community to celebrate the inspirational impact sci-fi has had on real spaceflight.
“Show Me Sci-Fi Space” takes place at the museum on Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Attendees will experience meet-and-greets with special guests Dan Monroe, YouTube celebrity from “Movies, Music & Monsters”; NASA astronaut Dr. Tom Jones (who will also do a book signing); Lou Dalmaso, professional model builder and content creator of “Aztek Dummy Productions”; Lance S. Winkel, assistant professor of digital animation for Missouri Western State University; Craig Skaggs, Disney fine artist and lead medical illustrator for the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; and Star Wars Imperial costuming group 70th Explorers Garrison.
Admission to “Show Me Sci-Fi Space” includes the chance to see Lost in Space’s B-9, Star War’s R2-D2, Robby from Forbidden Planet other robot replicas; lunch; museum tour; and a chance at door prizes including the opportunity to appear on a segment of “Movies, Music & Monsters.”
Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best costume play attire for the event contest. The fan-favorite winner will be selected by attendees to win $500. A $250 museum gift shop certificate will be awarded to the second-place winner, and the third-place prize is a $150 gift shop certificate.
The Gateway Chapter of the International Plastic Modelers Society will have a space sci-fi model-building contest. Participants must register online through IPMS with a QR code at space-mo.org (under the events tab).
With their event admission, attendees receive a tour of the museum to see an impressive collection of artifacts spanning the history of space exploration, including many sci-fi toys; unique space shuttle liftoff experience; virtual reality spacewalk aboard the International Space Station; hands-on interactive exhibits; and more. The museum tour may be taken anytime from June 27-29.
Tickets may be purchased early at Eventbrite.com, space-mo.org, by phone at 573-358-1200, or at the door on the day of the event. Guests receive an event wristband when they purchase tickets at the door or when they check in upon arrival at the event.
“Show Me Sci-Fi Space” promises to provide sci-fi fans with a unique experience. Mullins, who’s always been a sci-fi fan, said he’s read a lot about people who “took us to the stars but first started out liking sci-fi.”
“I often say, ‘if we can dream it, we can do it.’ Years ago, everybody was looking to the stars as the new frontier. Ultimately, those things we dreamed about, we went out and did,” he said. “We want people to come to our event, have a good time, and see the relationship between science fiction and science.”
The Space Museum and Grissom Center is located at 118 East School Street in Bonne Terre and open Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1-5 p.m. Call 573-358-1200 or visit space-mo.org or the museum’s Facebook page for more
