Jumbos end Senior Babe Ruth season in loss to Squirrels

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The SEMO Jumbos 19U baseball squad punctuated its season Saturday after going 1-2 in pool play at the Senior Babe Ruth Midwest Plains Regional tournament.
The Charleston Fighting Squirrels withstood multiple challenges over the last three innings, and prevailed 5-3 at Capaha Park to claim first place in the pool.
Owen Osborne finished 2-for-3 with RBI hits in two separate early rallies, and Bryce Stahl notched two singles in the victory.
Bryce McNabb inherited a runner in the bottom of the seventh, and faced one batter for the save. Knox Beard grounded into his second 4-6-3 double play of the game with Osborne making both stops.
The Jumbos trailed 4-0 until surging for three runs against winning pitcher Lawson Graff in the fifth. A base-running decision backfired and may have cost them more.
Chad Dickey and John Maness drew consecutive walks to lead off, and Nolan Inman singled to load the bases before Alex Nash ripped a sharp RBI hit.
Evan Inman grounded another RBI single through the right side to make it 4-2, but Caleb Nenninger unleashed a strong throw from the outfield to cut down a trailing runner at the plate.
Landon Baker walked T.J. Bolen after taking over on the mound, and Nash crossed the dish on a wild pitch. He escaped with the lead by striking out Beard and Lucas Dickey.
The Jumbos (11-12-1) stranded two more men in the sixth. Maness was 2-for-2 plus a walk offensively, and Bolen likewise reached base three times.
Lucas Dickey caught a runner stealing and lunged to prevent a wild pitch for reliever and brother Chad Dickey in the top of the seventh.
But another bounced offering enabled Osborne to get home on a close play. Sam McGill singled and Dunlap scored two runs for he Squirrels (19-14).
Charleston grabbed a 2-0 lead when Osborne drove an RBI triple to right-center and scored on a wild pitch after leadoff man Aaron Dunlap was plunked with a full count.
Osborne added an RBI single in the second inning, and a subsequent single by Stahl was misplayed in center field for a two-base error.
Maness allowed four runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. The lefty retired his last seven batters faced before Dickey threw a 1-2-3 sixth.
The Jumbos qualified for the regional after placing third in the state tournament. Heavy rain on Friday forced a change in venue from Hillhouse Park.
Jumbos 12, Centennial 1
CHARLESTON, Mo. – Lucas Dickey homered and collected five RBI on Friday as the SEMO Jumbos routed Centennial (Colo.) 12-1 in round two of pool play at the 19U Midwest Plains Regional.
T.J. Bolen pitched four scoreless innings for the win, and John Maness finished 3-for-4 as five players in the lineup accounted for multiple hits.
Two runners were stranded in the first inning, and two more were caught stealing in the second. But the Jumbos broke open a scoreless game with five tallies in the third.
Bolen and Knox Beard singled after Evan Inman reached on an error. Lucas Dickey made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly before Caleb Montgomery, Chad Dickey and Maness notched consecutive singles.
Centennial starter Yanndy Aguayo escaped a bases-loaded threat in the fifth after Nolan Inman singled to snap a personal streak of six consecutive strikeouts.
Evan Inman singled twice to spark rallies in the sixth and seventh frames. Back-to-back doubles by Lucas Dickey and Montgomery increased the margin to 9-0.
Bolen tallied four strikeouts while allowing only three hits with no walks. He capped a 2-for-4 effort with an RBI single before Lucas Dickey drilled his two-run shot off reliever Jordan Taylor.
Centennial squandered singles by Angel Ferrusquia and Derek Alvidrez in the second inning, and avoided a shutout when Jonathan Ezparza singled and scored on a two-out error in the seventh.
Evan Inman secured a three-inning save with two strikeouts. He yielded only the unearned run on one hit and one walk.
Aguayo surrendered nine runs on 11 hits, and fanned three while working into the sixth.
GSR Elite 4, Jumbos 2
CHARLESTON, Mo. – The SEMO Jumbos briefly led their regional pool opener on Thursday, but dropped a 4-2 decision to the solid GSR Elite 17U squad.
Carter Edwards delivered a tiebreaking, two-run single with two outs in the fourth inning against starter Noah Sansoucie, and finished 2-for-3 overall.
Cody Massey was also 2-for-3, and sparked the decisive rally with a leadoff double. Jamison Sifford joined him on base with a single.
Brody Nall retired six of his seven batters faced, and struck out three for the save. Elite starter Huston Partin walked six and fanned nine while allowing two runs over five innings.
Alex Nash paced the Jumbos at 1-for-1 with two walks, and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Evan Inman in the top of the second.
Lucas Dickey singled home Knox Beard for a 2-1 lead in the third. Alex Hogan and T.J. Bolen singled as the Jumbos were limited to four hits overall.
Sansoucie took the loss after yielding four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts over four frames. Chad Dickey followed with two scoreless innings.
The Elite opened the scoring in the first as Edwards came home on a wild pitch after two hit basemen loaded the bases.
Bolen fielded a 6-4-3 double play in the sixth for the Jumbos, who stranded nine runners on base.
