CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Ste. Genevieve Post 150 finished the Junior American Legion summer baseball season one victory short of securing a state championship.
Jefferson City Post 5 broke a tie with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and instead triumphed 3-2 for the crown on Sunday after back-to-back strikeouts stranded the tying run at third base in the seventh.
Chase Richard threw a 110-pitch complete game, allowing seven hits and four walks, and fanned opposing hurler Kaden Williams and cleanup batter Evan Fallert to seal the outcome.
Ste. Genevieve turned two double plays, and center fielder Colby Basler tracked down a double to throw out a stretching Carson Verslues stretching for third to delay the decisive rally.
Jefferson City (23-7-2) loaded the bases, however, on ensuing singles by Tommy Heisler, Kyson Green and Mitchell Rogers, the last of which was slapped into right field on a 0-2 count.

Post 5 then called upon pinch-hitter Troy Wulff, and he delivered a massive two-run single that created a 3-1 advantage and pressed Post 150 down to its last three outs.
Andrew Schilly sparked an answer by battling eight pitches and reaching safely on an error to begin the seventh. Trevor Basler then bunted and drew another errant throw by Rogers at third base.
Jeremiah Bird followed with a sacrifice fly as Schilly scored and Basler moved to third. But Richard obtained the last two outs while crossing his maximum pitch allotment.
Heisler equaled Rogers by going 2-for-3 with a double, and put Jefferson City ahead 1-0 with an extra-base hit after leadoff man Kason Lance singled in the first inning.
Ste. Genevieve (20-6) countered when Jett Weibrecht doubled and Josh Stewart notched an RBI single in the top of the second. Both players went 2-for-3 overall.
Williams needed 74 pitches to navigate six toasty innings in defeat, picking up four strikeouts with nine hits surrendered. He snared a line drive at the mound to negate a leadoff single in the third.
Drew Heislen singled to begin the Post 5 fifth, but a ground ball to Bird started a crucial 4-6-3 double play with the speedy Lance at the plate.
Post 150 produced three base runners in the fourth with nothing to show. Evan Viox was doubled off at first base when Weibrecht lined sharply to Rogers at third.
Stewart and Schilly followed with consecutive singles, but Heislen made a strong assist from center to cut down the lead runner going from first to third.
Fallert singled after Bird was picked off in the first inning. Ste. Genevieve entered the contest riding an 11-game win streak that included district and zone tournament titles.
Jefferson City advanced to upcoming regional action later this month in Washington, Mo.

Ste. Genevieve 13, Sedalia 3
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Evan Viox delivered a quality start following a rocky first inning, and helped Post 150 prevail in the Junior Legion baseball state tournament semifinals.
Andrew Schilly and Jett Weibrecht each finished 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Ste. Genevieve totaled 15 hits amid hot conditions Saturday to eliminate Sedalia Post 642.
Kaden Williams reached base five consecutive times, going 1-for-1 with four walks, and Post 150 continued its scalding postseason with an 11th straight win.
Evan Fallert concluded the contest by 10-run rule on a bases-loaded single after Williams drew a free pass with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Viox posted six strikeouts while hitting three batters and allowing five hits in a complete game. His endurance afforded any potential relievers a welcomed day of rest.
Sedalia pounced instantly when Joey Levko singled on the game’s initial pitch. RBI hits by Connor Thorpe and Kinzer Chambers followed, and Trevor Archibeque made it 3-0 on a sacrifice fly.
Ste. Genevieve countered with five in the home half against Lane McCollester, as Trevor Basler, Jeremiah Bird, Williams and Fallert attacked with four singles in a row.
Viox bestowed himself a 4-3 lead with a two-run single to left field, and Weibrecht added another tally on the sixth hit of the frame.
Bird walked, stole two bases and crossed the plate on a wild pitch in the second. RBI singles by Trevor Basler and Bird made it 8-3 in the third.
Post 642 stranded two runners in the top of the second, and had nine straight batters retired by Viox during a later stretch. A line-drive double play ended the sixth.

Viox notched his second hit on a double against Archibeque in the Ste. Genevieve fifth. Weibrecht connected for an ensuing RBI single, and scored on a Schilly double.
McCollester allowed eight runs and fanned five over 2 2/3 innings.
Ste. Genevieve 9, Washington 1
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Colby Basler homered in the sixth inning, and Ste. Genevieve clinched first place in its state tournament pool on Friday with a 9-1 victory over Washington Post 218.
Evan Fallert finished 2-for-4, including an insurance two-run double in the seventh, and Jeremiah Bird added two singles while moving up to second in the batting order for Post 150.
Evan Viox singled home Fallert, and Basler scored on a delayed steal for a 2-0 edge in the top of the second inning, providing early support for winning starter Kaden Williams.
Washington produced just three hits overall, and tallied its lone run after Drew Buehler doubled and Caden Brocato singled to left field with two outs in the second.
Ste. Genevieve promptly widened its advantage with three in the third. Trevor Basler reached on an error, Bird followed with a single, and Williams walked to load the bases.
Another infield miscue gave Fallert his first RBI, and Colby Basler added a sacrifice fly. Williams was awarded home plate on a balk by Post 218 hurler Lucas Howell that made it 5-1.
Jett Weibrecht doubled and scored on a wild pitch for Ste. Genevieve following the solo shot by Colby Basler. Howell allowed seven runs over six innings while striking out six.
Trevor Basler and Bird opened the seventh with singles before being driven in by Fallert. Both teams turned one double play in the game.
Williams pitched the first three frames, and struck out two for Post 150. A limited pitch count enabled his availability for the championship round on Sunday.
Fallert got around a two-out double by Jeremiah Bollman in the fifth, and Brice Pruneau closed with two perfect innings.
Ste. Genevieve 12, Fike 1
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – A combined no-hitter by Colby Basler, Andrew Schilly and Brice Pruneau highlighted an impressive Junior Legion state tournament opener for Ste. Genevieve.
Levi Chapman belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning, and leadoff man Trevor Basler went 3-for-5 as Post 150 rolled past Fike Post 499 on Thursday.
Ste. Genevieve broke open a scoreless contest with six runs in the top of the fourth, capitalizing on two walks, a hit batsman and four stolen bases.
Colby Basler made it 1-0 with a single against losing middle reliever Craig Haywood Jr., and No. 9 batter Jeremiah Bird added a key two-run single off James Volk.
Trevor Basler notched two RBI on ensuing back-to-back doubles with Schilly, who rebounded from two previous strikeouts against starter Connor Harris.
Evan Fallert reached base for the third straight time when a fly ball was dropped. Evan Viox increased the margin to 7-0 with an RBI single before Chapman connected to deep left-center.
Colby Basler posted four strikeouts over the first three innings, and worked around two walks as a ground ball to Viox at third base started an inning-ending double play in the second.
Fike Post 499, based out of Blue Springs, snapped a potential shutout when Nick Denny walked and advanced on a Schilly balk, wild pitch and throwing error in the fifth.
Pruneau fanned his first four batters in succession after taking over in the sixth.
Pinch-hitter Josh Stewart provided an RBI single, and Bird went 2-for-3 to bolster for Ste. Genevieve, which left runners at the corners after Trevor Basler and Fallert singled in the first inning.
