Wednesday Roundup: AV, Potosi tennis teams control road opponents

DEXTER, Mo. – The Arcadia Valley girls tennis team moved their record above the .500 mark for the first time this season after a successful trip to Dexter.

Braelyn Turnbough and Reese Brogan set the singles tone with 8-0 victories after winning 8-2 in their doubles contest, and the Lady Tigers rolled 8-1 overall on Wednesday.

Meleah Lara and Mary Beth Young also won easily as a doubles tandem before taking their respective singles matches for Arcadia Valley (5-4).

Meadow Boushey persevered for an 8-6 result after joining Abby Dugger for an 8-4 triumph.

No. 6 singles player Meredith Nea helped Dexter (2-6) avoid a shutout.

Potosi 8, Affton 1

AFFTON, Mo. – Caity Cain and Miley Jarvis produced 8-0 singles shutouts, and Potosi traveled north for an 8-1 tennis victory over Affton on Wednesday.

Shannon Riddle, Kinsley Vance and Harlee Kley added convincing singles wins after Potosi (4-3) put together a doubles sweep.

Chloe Rowe paired with Riddle to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. The combinations of Cain with Vance and Emily Brewer with Brenna Yount completed 8-1 outcomes.

Affton (1-5) got an 8-3 singles victory from top player Miranda Yeates.

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame 5, North County 0

BONNE TERRE – Kynna Johnson scattered three hits and three walks while striking out six batters on Wednesday, as Notre Dame earned a 5-0 shutout triumph over North County.

Eloiza Marquez finished 1-for-1 with three walks and two stolen bases for Notre Dame (12-4, 3-1), which increased a 1-0 lead with four runs against reliever Emma Roper in the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs got a single and RBI apiece from Lauren Estes, Charleigh DeShaney, Claire Robert and Kaydin King during the conference road win.

Madison-Anne Carroll doubled and walked for North County (4-6, 3-2). Ava McClure finished 1-for-2 with a walk, and Madalyn Jaco also singled.

Olivia Jaco allowed just one run on two hits, and walked two over four frames in defeat.

Jackson 16, Farmington 1

JACKSON, Mo. – Winning pitcher Lexi Stearns delivered five RBI while going 3-for-3 with a double, and Jackson beat Farmington 16-1 in four innings on Wednesday.

Kaylee Stearns went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI for the Indians, who erupted for 11 runs in the third inning to increase a 4-1 advantage.

Liley Dawes bolstered Jackson (10-5, 2-0) at 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Lexi Stearns threw an abbreviated five hitter with five strikeouts and no walks allowed.

Jaylynne Payne singled, stole a base and crossed the plate in the second inning for Farmington (0-8, 0-3). Gracie Mann, Izzy Staat, Katelyn Heberlie and Kylen Knight also contributed hits.

Four pitchers were used by the Knights, who were slowed by five defensive errors. Kamryn Kennedy took the loss after yielding four runs on four hits in the bottom of the second.

VOLLEYBALL

Ste. Genevieve 3, Arcadia Valley 0

IRONTON – Middle hitter Aleah Filer slammed 17 kills on Wednesday night, and Ste. Genevieve secured a 30-28, 25-22, 25-13 victory at Arcadia Valley.

Emma Gegg totaled eight kills, 18 digs and two service aces for the Dragons. Emme Browne spiked seven kills and picked up 14 digs.

Ally Gegg finished with 20 assists, five kills, six digs and two aces, and fellow setter Emma Jokerst tallied 16 assists, six kills, five digs and two aces.

Ste. Genevieve (9-2-1) also received five kills from Molly Grass.

Arcadia Valley (8-5) celebrated an individual milestone despite the loss. Sophomore setter Annabelle Adams surpassed 1,000 career assists with 27 for the match, along with nine digs.

Hattie Vinyard highlighted the attack for a second straight contest with 11 kills, and chipped in 12 digs. Andrea McClanahan led the net defense with four blocks.

Alena Maxwell compiled seven kills, nine digs and three aces among six service points. Lillie Adams made 14 digs, and Emma Dunn provided four kills plus six digs for the Lady Tigers.
