The August Jefferson County death investigation of 60-year-old Dittmer resident Robert Malcom has now expanded to include his wife, Stacy Jay-Malcom, who was found deceased on September 9. She had been unaccounted for since her husband was found deceased in their home on Aug. 30.
According to information from authorities, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call on Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. to a call for a deceased male discovered inside a residence in the 8000 block of Canyon Lane in Dittmer. The man was identified as 60-year-old Robert Malcom, who lived at the residence. Stacy Jay-Malcom, the man’s wife, was missing, and investigators were searching for her.
In a media release issued on September 9, Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak stated, “On September 7th, 2025, Mrs. Jay-Malcom’s body was discovered in a wooded area on private property in the 8900 block of State Road WW. The property owner located the remains and immediately notified the Sheriff’s Office. Positive identification was made on September 9th during an autopsy conducted by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.”
The Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released her cause of death and stated that there were no obvious signs of trauma, with evidence suggesting her death was the result of a possible overdose.
Sheriff Marshak said the recovery of Mrs. Malcom’s body does not complete the investigation into the death of Mr. Malcom, which had been classified as a homicide case. An analysis of additional evidence will require several weeks or months to complete the review and testing. Investigators said they were confident that this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public; no other persons of interest are being sought.
“From the beginning of this case, investigators considered multiple possibilities regarding Mrs. Jay-Malcom’s

whereabouts: that she may have been in hiding or that she may have taken medication and remained within walking distance of the home.
To address both possibilities, the Sheriff’s Office and partner agencies devoted hundreds of hours to the search. This included extensive ground operations, use of drones, helicopters, canines, as well as interviews and (to date) the execution of 12 search warrants from property searches to digital evidence,” Sheriff Marshak said.
While evidence suggests that Mrs. Malcom was responsible for Mr. Malcom’s death, the Sheriff’s Office will not make a final determination until all evidence is fully recovered, analyzed, and reviewed. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 636-797-5515.
