Head-on collision results in death of Farmington man
A head-on collision October 14 in Iron County, on MO 221 1.5 miles north of Pilot Knob, resulted in the death of one driver and injuries to 11 others.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that at 4:03 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, a southbound 2008 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 51-year-old male from Farmington, crossed the center line of Mo. 221 and struck, head on, a 2021 Ford Transit, driven by a 31-year-old female from O’Fallon, Mo. with 10 passengers. The collision resulted in the death of the Farmington driver and injured 11 occupants of the Ford Transit. The driver of the Ford and one passenger ere wearing safety devices; it is not known whether the other passengers in the Ford were wearing them. The driver of the Toyota was not wearing a safety device.
The fatality was pronounced at 4:49 p.m. by Iron County Coroner Tim Harvison and was transported to the Iron County morgue by the coroner. Injuries of various degrees were suffered by the passengers in the Ford Transit. A 16-year-old male received serious injuries and was transported by Air Evac to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis. A 17-year-old male passenger received serious injuries and was transported by EMS to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. 4 juvenile passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Iron County Medical Center by EMS. 4 other juvenile passengers and the driver received minor injuries and were transported, by EMS, to Parkland Health Center in Farmington.
Both vehicles were determined to be a total loss and were removed from the scene of the accident by Adams Towing.
A two-vehicle accident at Mo. 8 and P junctions, just west of Park Hills, the afternoon of October 13, resulted in injuries to both drivers.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that at 3:19 p.m., October 13, a southbound 2010 Ford Fusion driven by a 19-year-old female from Bonne Terre failed to yield to oncoming traffic and pulled into the path of a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 37-year-old female from Farmington, resulting in the Tahoe striking the side of the Fusion.
The driver of the Fusion sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital South by St. Francois County ambulance. The driver of the Tahoe suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital South by St. Francois County ambulance. Both drivers were wearing safety devices.
The Ford Fusion was listed as totaled, while the Chevrolet Tahoe received extensive damage. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Marler’s Towing.
