The Show That Haunts Us is a unique event that pulls guests directly into the action through live performance.

This non-scary family-friendly Halloween event is presented by Mineral Area Fine Arts Academy. It’s an interactive walk-through experience that revives songs and characters from past MAFAA musicals including Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast, Wizard of Oz and Matilda. Participants will enjoy spooky fun with plenty of surprises throughout their adventure.

The Show That Haunts Us takes place Oct. 16-18 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Mineral Area College Tech Center. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Mac.edu/haunt or at the door. Tickets are for 30-minute time slots.

Concessions and themed merchandise will be available to purchase.

Dorothy, played by London Miscisin, leads guests through as the scenes unfold before them. She rescues other characters who are battling the villains of their origin shows. These include Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors, played by Zabien Gusman, and Veda Benz as Matilda, Elton Benz as Nigel and Nekoda Miscisin as Bruce, all from Matilda.

Daisy Benz, MAFAA theater facilitator, came up with the idea for The Show That Haunts Us last year.

“I’m so excited to see it finally coming to life this season,” she said. “I think it will be a super fun event for the community to enjoy.”

Benz said she’s especially grateful for the cast’s hard work and crew of volunteers who stepped up to help. In addition, she expressed her appreciation for her husband, Tim, technical director, who “magically takes the ideas in my head and turns them into reality.”

In addition, Benz thanked Amanda Dement for trusting her vision for the theater program and Sam Konzelmann for creating the promo video for The Show That Haunts Us.

“We have such a wonderful family here at MAFAA,” she said, “and it takes every one of us to be able to pull off an event like this.”
