Vaughn recognized as the veteran of the game on Nov. 14

US Air Force Staff Sergeant Daryl Vaughn II (center) was recognized as the veteran of the game on Nov. 14, 2025, during MAC’s “Salute to Service,” a program feature of each home basketball game to honor the men and women who have served or are currently active-duty military personnel. Submitted

US Air Force Staff Sergeant Daryl Vaughn II was recognized as the veteran of the game in Mineral Area College’s “Salute to Service” portion of the Nov. 14 home basketball game.

Vaughn has served in the US Air Force since 2020 and has been stationed at Lackland AFB in Texas and Minot AFB in North Dakota. He is currently stationed at Columbus AFB in Mississippi, serving as a Flight Sergeant and Law Enforcement Officer.

MAC will continue the Salute to Service recognition program this year at each regular-season home basketball game. Nominations of veterans or active-duty service members from any branch of the US military are now being accepted. In addition to recognition during pre-game and on social media, the nominee will receive a MAC t-shirt and free admission for both the veteran/service member and their family.

Dr. Gilgour said this will be the college’s fifth year for the program, with opportunities for up to 13 people to be honored throughout the season.

“Considering the sacrifices these men and women have made, this is just a small way for Mineral Area College to show our appreciation,” Gilgour said. “It’s been humbling for me to meet each of the honorees over the past few years, and it’s something I look forward to continuing this year.”
