Monday Roundup: Lady Cats sink threes and crash glass in triumph over South Iron

FREDERICKTOWN – An empty opening possession still managed to set a positive tone for senior forward Lauren Hale and the Fredericktown girls basketball team.
Hale corralled three misses during a five-shot sequence, and the Lady Cats continued attacking the glass throughout a 59-37 triumph over visiting South Iron on Monday night.
Fredericktown (2-4) pieced together an extensive 16-0 run during the first half, and received a boost from the perimeter to balance its interior.production.
Hale, a three-sport athlete and future Division I soccer goalkeeper signed to Lindenwood, compiled 19 points and 20 rebounds. Lauryn Mell scored 17 after sinking five 3-pointers.

Both teams committed seven turnovers prior to the break, but South Iron (3-3) struggled to connect on numerous open looks after taking its lone lead at 5-3.
Payton German totaled 13 points with six rebounds, going 4-of-4 from the line, and Rena Miller added 11 points following three early fouls to pace the Lady Panthers.
Laila Stephens banked in a runner, and Brylie Allgier landed her second jumper to build a lead. Hale curled around a screen to finish a pass from Teagan Stevens later in the second quarter.
German snapped the South Iron drought with her second 3-pointer, but Mell countered with her second as well for a 24-10 margin at halftime.
Mell struck three times from long range, and provided a putback in the third quarter. Stevens balanced the offense with two turning baskets from the low post.
Hale added two more second-chance baskets in the final stanza. Stephens finished an outlet pass from Juliana Lunsford, then drove for a left-handed layup at 51-26.
Allgier equaled Stevens with eight points, and also supplied six rebounds plus four assists for the Lady Cats. Stephens had seven points, and Lunsford secured three steals.
Fredericktown made 7-of-9 free throws compared to 7-of-13 by South Iron, which generated a 17-16 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.
Miller nailed a corner 3-pointer and driving runner down the stretch. Allee Martin netted two late baskets in the paint, and ended with six points and nine rebounds.
Potosi 52, Bismarck 51
BISMARCK – Chloe Rowe sank two clutch free throws with 3.5 seconds left, and Potosi escaped Bismarck with a 52-51 victory on Monday night.
Rowe shared game-high honors with 17 points, and Presley Smith stole the final inbound after a 43-36 lead through three quarters slipped away from the Lady Trojans.
Dhatri McRaven sank three 3-pointers in the first quarter to help Potosi (5-1) move in front 18-15. Bismarck (3-1) answered to take a 31-30 edge into halftime.
Halie Dickey also scored 17, and sister Karlee Dickey returned to the lineup with 11 while propelling the Lady Indians toward their last-minute lead.
But a rough 8-of-20 showing from the line proved costly for the home team. Grace Randazzo provided eight points, and Kinsey Hubbs added seven.
Sabra Brown tallied eight points, and Eden Robart tossed in seven to help Potosi.
Kennett 59, Farmington 47
KENNETT, Mo. – Four starters finished in double digits as Kennett handed Farmington its first defeat of the season, capped by the first career ejection of veteran coach Rusty Sancegraw.
Alivia Lewallen produced a game-high 18 points, and Alyce Edwards added 15 as the Indians claimed the 59-47 home win.. Tayja Carter had 14 points, and Keyleigh Love-Mullins supplied 12.
A slow start for both sides resulted in a 4-4 tie through the first quarter. Halftime arrived at an 18-18 deadlock before Kennett (4-2) surged ahead 34-27.
Trinidy Brawley netted 15 on five 3-pointers, and Madison Clay dropped in 14 points for Farmington (6-1). Lila Roth ended with eight points, and Kate Jenkerson posted six.
Sancegraw received two technicals from the same official during a timeout with 1:44 remaining.
Festus 44, Central 32
FESTUS, Mo. – Alyzah Scaggs scored a game-high 14 points, and Festus bolstered its case for a No. 1 seed in the upcoming Central Christmas Tournament.
The Lady Tigers overcame a shaky 32 percent from the field by committing only six turnovers for the game, and topped Central 44-32 on Monday night.
Lillian Kennedy chipped in nine points, and Festus (6-0) stretched a 27-19 halftime advantage by allowing just two points in the third quarter.
Olivia Madden compiled 11 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and five points in the victory.
Mallory Blankenship paced Central (2-3) with 10 points. Morgan Populis tossed in seven points while Mia Monges and Reese Hulsey added six each.
Scaggs beat the first-quarter buzzer with a 3-pointer for an 18-10 margin after a traveling violation was not called to the frustration of visiting players and coaches.
Jefferson 73, West County 61
FESTUS, Mo. – Jefferson created ample separation with a 25-point third quarter, and posted a 73-61 victory over short-handed West County on Monday night.
Annabelle Richardson scored 21 points and Halayna Loyd added 20. Jefferson (2-3) increased its 29-19 halftime lead to 54-36 after three quarters.
West County (4-3) battled without two of its three experienced leaders as Alyssa Ludwig and Sadie Patterson continue to deal with injuries.
Maylee Merrill starred with a game-high 30 points, exploding for 18 in the fourth quarter. She was fouled on two straight driving layups before draining a 3-pointer from straight away.
Olivia Turner provided 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs, and fellow freshman Josey Tongay netted 10 off the bench after sinking back-to-back threes in the third period.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Arcadia Valley 62, Bismarck 30
IRONTON – Arcadia Valley allowed no field goals to Bismarck through the first 11:23, and rolled to a 62-30 conference victory on Monday afternoon.
Kaiden Keith totaled 21 points over 2 ½ quarters for the Tigers, and capped an opening 14-0 run with a steal and layup after Brayton Jarvis cashed in the previous turnover.
Jarel Jackson sank a shot in the lane, and drove end to end for another basket during the initial spurt, and provided nine points in the win.
Arcadia Valley (4-2, 1-0) established a 35-12 halftime lead. David Montgomery notched three straight layups, with two steals in between, to highlight the bench in the fourth quarter.
Austin Dunlap snapped the field-goal drought for Bismarck (4-5, 0-1) with the first of two 3-pointers made in the second quarter.
August Martinez, Carson Stricklin and Dunlap each finished with eight points for the Indians. Gabe Crocker added six in his first action of the season.
BOYS WRESTLING
North County 39, Valle Catholic 29
STE. GENEVIEVE – North County junior Nathan Morefield Crayton (285) followed up his individual tournament title from last weekend with a fall in 43 seconds on Monday night.
John Moore (150) also secured a pin during the opening minute, and Colten McCrorey (120) added a 9-5 decision to help the wrestling Raiders beat Valle Catholic 39-29.
Christian Santiago (215), Daniel Whitacre (165), Dalton Proffer (157) and Hunter Recar (138) each received a forfeit for North County.
Jayce Bieser (126), Kalan Fallert (132) and Mason Folk (175) registered falls to lead Valle Catholic.
Andrew Schilly (144) posted a 21-5 technical fall, and Cammden Zipprich (106) was unopposed.

Cammden Zipprich (106), Jayce Bieser (126) and Kalan Fallert (132) pinned their opponents in the first period for the Warriors.
Clayton Stewart (120), Andrew Schilly (144), Ethan Wolk (150), Mason Folk (175) and Nolan Prehm (285) were each unopposed.
Both teams picked up 30 forfeited points.
