Bonne Terre domestic violence results in two stabbing victims

Bonne Terre Police Department patch

The Bonne Terre Police Department is investigating a stabbing attack that left two people hospitalized Friday night, Jan. 10, in what authorities say appears to be a domestic violence incident involving an attempted murder followed by an attempted suicide.

Police Chief Jasen Crump said officers responded at about 7 p.m. Jan. 10 to the 400 block of Huff Ct. for a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located a female victim who had fled to a neighboring residence. Officers immediately began rendering lifesaving aid.

Police were advised that a male suspect may have remained at the original scene. Officers later made contact at an adjacent residence, where they found a second victim suffering from apparent lacerations. Lifesaving measures were immediately implemented.

Both victims were airlifted to a St. Louis–area hospital, where they remain in critical but stable condition.

Investigators determined the incident was an apparent act of domestic violence involving the female victim and her fiancé, who is identified as the assailant. Police are classifying the assaults as attempted murder, followed by attempted suicide.

A small child belonging to the female victim was present during the incident but was not injured, according to information from authorities.

Police said both victims are known to have resided at the location of the assault, and no other parties are believed to be involved.

The investigation remains active, and officers are working with the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to seek formal charges against the assailant.

This is a developing story that will be updated as information becomes available.
