Monday Basketball: Bismarck gets first victory over Central in 15 seasons

PARK HILLS – Bismarck played the final 4:11 without an available substitute, and withstood a late comeback attempt to beat Central for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Karlee Dickey scored 12 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter, and the visiting Lady Indians overcame 25 turnovers to prevail 55-44 on Monday night.
Kinsey Hubbs sank three 3-pointers and tallied 12 before fouling out for the Lady Indians, who were already missing senior forward Ashley Hawkins from their original seven.
But their lead had just reached its maximum at 48-28. Halie Dickey attacked for a transition layup, and Karlee Dickey countered an impressive runner by Hanna Petty with an open 3-pointer.
Central competed minus starter Katelynn Clark, and faced other adversity when Mia Monges played sparingly in the second half and picked up her fifth foul with 5:49 left.
Just 18 seconds later, forward Morgan Populis was decked in a violent collision with teammate Reese Hulsey, and briefly stayed down after they converged for an attempted steal.
But the Lady Rebels found a spark from their younger talent, and embarked on a quick 16-2 spurt as Bismarck struggled to protect possessions.
Petty notched nine of her team-high 13 points in the final stanza while adding four steals, and Karli Layton added 11 points with four steals inside.
Kayelyn Redecker sank a 3-pointer off the bench, and Petty followed with a steal and two free throws to make it 50-44 with 52 seconds remaining.
But a basket by Ayla Hawkins sealed the outcome when Central saved a loose rebound directly to her in the paint. Hawkins completed a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Halie Dickey gave Bismarck (10-2) four players in double figures with 10 points and four steals. Her banked 3-pointer at the first-quarter buzzer spelled a 9-4 lead.
She connected again back to back with Hubbs to open the second, and the visitors salvaged a 22-16 halftime edge despite a conventional 3-point play by Layton.
Grace Randazzo drained two triples in the second half, and scored seven points for Bismarck, which converted 11-of-18 free throws while the Lady Rebels made 12-of-22 overall.
Populis provided nine points before departing the action, and Central (6-9) finished with 17 turnovers. Hulsey grabbed six rebounds and equaled Mallory Blankenship with five points.
Arcadia Valley 61, Valle Catholic 32
IRONTON – Arcadia Valley honored seniors Paige Newstead-Adams, Addison Gallaher and Reese Brogan, and defeated Valle Catholic with St. Paul 61-32 on Monday evening.
Braelyn Turnbough scored 11 of her 20 points during the third quarter as the Lady Tigers stretched their 33-13 halftime lead to 51-19 entering the fourth.
Callie Hinkle sank three 3-point shots prior to intermission, and equaled Annabelle Adams with 11 points as Arcadia Valley (10-4) put four players in double digits.
The Lady Tigers will host Bismarck next Monday in an MAAA Small School showdown.
Recently returning forward Kelby Detring paced Valle Catholic (4-10) with 10 points. Reece Weiler and Hayden Veath registered the only 3-pointers for the Lady Warriors.
The teams combined to attempt only seven free throws.
Potosi 57, Herculaneum 14
HERCULANEUM, Mo. – Brenley Thornton scored 11 points, and Potosi eased past Herculaneum 57-14 after allowing one field goal in the first half on Monday evening.
Eden Robart added 10 points, and the Lady Trojans carried a 46-2 advantage into halftime.
Sabra Brown, Presley Smith and Sabyn Brown each finished with six points for Potosi (14-2).
Joslyn Milne had five points for Herculaneum (2-11).
Neelyville 66, Fredericktown 46
FREDERICKTOWN – Mineral Area College commit Parker Ernst tallied 22 points, including nine in the fourth quarter as Neelyville pulled away from Fredericktown 66-46 on Monday night.
Maci Andrews and Anna Lack netted 18 points each, connecting twice from long range. Neelyville (12-3) posted a 20-10 scoring edge in the third quarter to lead 45-34.
Fredericktown (4-9) offered an even battle throughout the first 16 minutes, and narrowly trailed 25-24 at halftime after the first quarter concluded in an 11-11 tie.
Laila Stephens dropped in 11 points, and Sydney Dunnahoo had 10 more for the Lady Cats.
Brylie Allgier and Lauren Hale each ended with seven points, and Teagan Stevens totaled six.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Valle Catholic 69, Marquand 40
MARQUAND – Evan Viox scored 22 points, and Valle Catholic dominated a rare matchup with Marquand 69-40 on the road Monday night.
Phillip Naeger finished with 11 points, Alex Staab and Brody Bertrand tallied 10 apiece, and the Warriors unofficially forced 32 turnovers.
Valle Catholic (5-6) established a comfortable 41-24 halftime lead.
Colby Stafford paced Marquand (7-6) with 14 points, and Joshua Whitener tossed in 10.
