The City of Fredericktown, which is an equal opportunity employer, announced that it is accepting applications for lifeguards and a manager for the Memorial Park swimming pool for the summer.
Applications are available at City Hall, 202 West College, Fredericktown, and will be accepted until all the positions have been filled. Harbison said the city expects to fill the pool manager’s position within the next two weeks.
City Clerk Theresa Harbison said the city is participating in Ellis & Associates training for the Pool Manager, who will train new and returning lifeguards at the city pool. The pool manager will train for their certificate in March. Harbison said their certificate has to match the depth of the pool, or 12′ in Fredericktown’s case.
The pool is scheduled to open on Memorial Day weekend. The pool closed last year for the first time in decades, causing an upset in the town and a lack of entertainment for the reliable swimming activity. The hiring process was troubled, and the manager left for medical reasons.
Swimmers can expect cleaner water this year, due to the city’s approval of a $98,000 repair for the pool’s filtration system, which was completed during the closure. City Administrator James Settle said the barrels were 35 years old and pushed sand back into the pool.
