PARK HILLS – Four players from NJCAA Tournament bound Mineral Area men’s basketball team have recently been selected for all-Region 16 honors.
Guards Terron Garrett and Nassir Binion made the First Team along with forward Nazir Allen, while point guard B.J. Duling landed Second Team recognition.
Mineral Area (21-11) captured its first region championship in five years, and will face Montoe (N.Y.) in first round action on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Garrett scored a season-high 30 points at State Fair last month, and had 21 in the region tournament title clincher against Three Rivers. He averages 13.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists, and shoots 77 percent from the line.
Allen netted 28 points in a victory at Lake Land, and has five double-digit rebounding games while serving as a key post defender.
The Memphis native leads the Cardinals at 13.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, and amassed a season-high seven blocks against State Fair in early January.
Binion saw his greatest production during the first semester, notching 30 points against John A. Logan and 26 against No. 7 national seed Midland. He shoots 48 percent from the field while contributing 10.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per outing.
Duling is the team leader at 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals, and sinks 35 percent from beyond the arc.
Sophomore forward Mariah Dallas highlighted a 16-13 season for the Mineral Area women with her strong work inside after missing a significant part of her freshman campaign due to injury.
Dallas was named to the all-region First team after averaging 15.7 points and 5.6 rebounds while going 75 percent at the line. She matched a career high by scoring 37 against Moberly.
Fredericktown graduate P.J. Reutzel earned a Second Team spot as a versatile guard and top perimeter threat. She averaged 9.6 points and 4.9 rebounds while going 34 percent from 3-point range.
Reutzel drained seven threes for a season-best 21 points in a victory at Moberly, and tallied 19 twice against Three Rivers and Crowder.
