PARK HILLS – Farmington captured team titles and North County finished runner-up in the boys and girls divisions at the toasty, season-opening Rebel Relays on Friday.
Hazel Perret began her junior campaign by winning all three events entered, and Josh McCarthy earned two blazing victories for the boys in the 100 and 200 sprints.
The Knights collected 10 total event championships, and placed second in 11 others to build healthy leads on both sides of the standings.
Farmington posted 1-2 results twice with Hazel Perret and sister Helena Perret in the 300-meter hurdles plus winner Ella Scott and Clarah Wilkins in the pole vault.
Alexis Cassimatis, Cayman McIntyre, Hannah Mathes and Kate Jenkerson powered to first place in the 4×800 relay. Hazel Perret also prevailed in the 100 hurdles and high jump.
Junior Madison Vance shared a victory with Valley senior Daisy Kearns in a shockingly close battle as both athletes posted 100-meter dash times of 12.940 seconds.
Helena Perret was second in the triple jump, and Kya Gruhala crossed second in the girls 800.
As McCarthy prevailed twice in brisk races, Farmington also thrived in boys distance events. Program record holder Owen Barron also cruised in the pole vault.
Judge Aubuchon and Axtin Brune were the first two across the line in the 800, while Ayden Wiles and Alex Bequette added a 1-2 performance in the 3200.
Oscar Millan secured second place in the long and high jumps for the Knights. Corben Phillips took second in the javelin, and Bryce Busenbark did likewise in the 110-meter hurdles.
The 15-school gathering resembled an early conference meet preview, including all MAAA programs plus Steelville, St. Charles, St. Paul and Marquand.
North County blistered the track for a sweep of the 4×100 relays. Sophie Rackley, Abigail Layne, Anna Layne and Ava McClure earned the girls victory while Braydee McClure, Caleb Shrum, Jayden Cook and Brady Duncan headlined the boys race.
Shrum controlled the high jump while Duncan took second in the pole vault and Jamal Robinson ended second in the triple jump during boys action.
Reese Bequette notched a triple jump win, and was second in the long jump for the Lady Raiders, who were runner-up in the 4×200. Macie Peterson soared to second in the high jump.
Potosi stacked up third in the girls standings with four event titles. Adalyn Kirby established the 800 pace, and punctuated a final triumph in the 4×400.
Distance standout Peyton Heifner won the 3200 and finished second in the 1600. She preceded Carley Coleman, Presley Smith and Kirby in a runner-up 4×800.
Smith totaled 32 points after taking second in the 400 and third in her javelin debut. Multiple passes on her third leg on the 4×400 put the Lady Trojans in front.
Freshman Zowee Gamble began her varsity journey with a title in the shot put.
A’Montae Hill, Blayne Maxwell, Carter Pyatt and Oliver Hicks gave the Potosi boys their best event result of second place in the 4×200.
The Ste. Genevieve boys made waves in the field as 2025 state shot put champion Paul Taylor began his path toward a hopeful repeat.
Taylor prevailed in the both the shot and discus while fellow senior Talan Pinkley achieved an early statement as double winner of the long and triple jumps.
Graduation removed three perennial all-state performers from a Ste. Genevieve girls squad that placed fourth in all of Class 3 last May.
The Dragons are turning to youth, and the combination of Cecilia Mooney, Lydia Boyer, Karleigh Bauman and Lilli Farlow delivered a 4×200 crown.
The Fredericktown boys celebrated two new records on first-place efforts by junior Garrett Wright (46.75m) in the javelin and junior Dylan Melvin (39.99) in the 300-meter hurdles.
Melvin also topped the competition in the 110-meter hurdles, and Maddox Knepper seized second overall in the discus throw.
Lauren Hale notched a victory in the javelin while Fredericktown teammates Peyton Griffon, Jillian Hinkle, Breea McDaniel and Jonsyn Rehkop took second in the 4×100.
Valle Catholic secured a 400-meter dash sweep from Malachi Fallert and Ella Bley, who also crossed second in the girls 200.
Brody Cole anchored a 4×200 triumph for Central with Karras Foster, Kane Huskey and August Black, and sprinted second fastest in the 100 and 200 dashes.
Charley Havelka placed second, and Rylee Jones was third in the shot put for the host Lady Rebels.
Kearns, a triple state medalist in Class 1 last spring, registered 32 points for Valley with two sprinting wins, second place in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 4×100.
Reigning conference discus champion Meleah Lara opened her senior season with a win, and Braelyn Turnbough claimed third in the girls 400 for Arcadia Valley.
Medals were awarded to the top four individuals or relay teams in each event.
