PARK HILLS – Outstanding starting work from Maddox Basler on the mound set the tone as the North County baseball team topped Hillsboro for the first time since the 2018 season.
The Raiders provided plenty of support with 14 hits, and generated five runs in the third inning to gain full control of a 10-2 triumph Tuesday at Mineral Area College.
Connor Cline finished 3-for-4 with three RBI while Kyle Straughan and Kayson Moore each went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for North County (3-1).
Basler collected five strikeouts and issued four walks over 5 1/3 innings for the win. Moore retired five consecutive batters to punctuate a combined one-hitter.
Jaxon Scherffius and Noah Lindsey were each 2-for-4 to bolster the victory. Zak Meador, Kendrick Simon and Basler singled and walked.
Zach Partney tallied the lone hit for Hillsboro (1-2). Riley Wallace and Nicholas Groner were plunked by pitches to reach base.
Cash Linderer allowed eight runs on eight hits and five walks over two innings while taking the loss.
Central 5, Perryville 4
PARK HILLS – Senior Kale Dreier delivered the decisive two-run double in the sixth inning, then pitched Central out of a final jam in dramatic fashion on Tuesday.
Judson Moser fielded a ground ball, stepped on first base and fired home to catcher Triton Crocker for a game-ending double play as the Rebels preserved a 5-4 victory over Perryville.
Brady Schweiss went 2-for-3, and Jaxen Burns scored two runs for Central (1-2). Braden Patterson pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win.
A catcher’s interference call and subsequent walk created potential danger, and a wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position before Dreier escaped with the save.
Both teams totaled six hits and four errors. Perryville (1-1) regained a 4-3 edge when Eli Deckard connected for a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth.
Dreier answered with two outs as the first man to face reliever Parker Shelton after William Harrel reached on a crucial error and Burns walked against losing starter Bryce Weber.
The Pirates executed a double steal before an error ushered in a second run during the first inning against Moser, who allowed three runs on five hits over 3 1/3 frames.
Central erased a 3-0 deficit on a two-run single by Crocker and tying ground out by Eli Roper in the fifth. Patterson and Moser also chipped in singles.
Gideon Stueve and Weber each went 2-for-3 with a double for Perryville. Weber was charged for five runs – two earned – on five hits while fanning five over 5 2/3 innings.
The Rebels turned two double plays.
Potosi 12, Cuba 1
CUBA, Mo. – Landon Johnson doubled and amassed four RBI while going 3-for-4, and Potosi rolled past Cuba 12-1 in five innings on Tuesday.
Five runs in the final frame brought an early conclusion, and Camden Kincaid pitched a complete game with one unearned run allowed on three hits when walking two and striking out two.
Krew Sadler finished 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored, and five players in the lineup of Potosi (2-1) were hit by pitches.
Cole Portell stole three bases and equaled Alex Hogan with a single and two RBI. Brayden Blair singled and walked with three runs scored for the Trojans.
Gavin Mosier and Kincaid also singled, and David Miller chipped in an RBI.
Braden Gipson drove in a run during the first inning while Wyatt McMillian and Logan McDonald had the only other hits for Cuba (1-3).
Cameron Carnal fanned four batters, and gave 11 earned runs on 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings in defeat.
Valley 6, Steelville 1
CALEDONIA – Strong pitching from Hunter Moore and Keller Loughary propelled Valley past Steelville 6-1 for its first victory on Tuesday.
Ryder Yount finished 2-for-3 with two RBI offensively, and provided an RBI double in the second inning. The Vikings increased a 3-1 edge with three tallies in the fourth.
Blake Gillam notched an RBI single, and stole three bases after being plunked twice by pitches for Valley (1-1). Gabe Land and and Moore also singled and scored.
Moore compiled nine strikeouts and allowed an unearned run on just two hits through four innings for the win. Loughary fanned five over three scoreless frames to collect the save.
Both teams committed two defensive errors.
Chase Grayson went 2-for-3 while Trentin Garrison and Tucker Garrison singled for Steelville (1-3). Colin Orick retired one batter and surrendered two runs on three hit batsmen in the loss.
Bismarck 15, Viburnum 0
BISMARCK – Chris Ethridge pitched a four-inning no-hitter, and struck out six batters for Bismarck to highlight a 15-0 shutout over Viburnum on Tuesday.
Carson Stricklin went 2-for-2 with a double, three stolen bases and three runs scored for the Indians, who broke the game open with 10 runs in the second inning.
Peter Restivo scored three times, and matched Lance Brewster by going 2-for-2 with two RBI. Ean Bone tripled and singled with two RBI in four total plate appearances.
Bismarck (3-2) also received hits from Tatum Duncan and Ethridge.

Viburnum (0-3) coaxed two walks, and Austin Turnbough was hit by two offerings from Ethridge. Kaleb Berger threw 45 pitches as the losing starter.
Duchesne 14, Ste. Genevieve 4
STE. GENEVIEVE – Duchesne scored four runs in three separate innings, and erupted for 20 total hits while beating Ste. Genevieve 14-4 in five innings on Tuesday.
Timothy Griese doubled and crossed the plate three times in a 4-for-4 performance, Jackson Nikodym doubled while going 3-for-4 to pace the Pioneers.
Ben Winterer compiled a game-high five RBI, and was 3-for-3 with a double. Duchesne (3-1) built a 10-2 lead after three frames.
Ethan Ottens singled twice, and Maddox Sutton doubled for Ste. Genevieve (0-3). Jett Weibrecht, Sawyer Bauman and Noah Willett also supplied one hit each.
Ryan Whitworth surrendered four runs on six hits over four innings as the winning hurler. James Andrews closed with a scoreless bottom of the fifth.
Jaymeson Forest tallied three RBI, and equaled Drake Fortman, Landon Richards and Mason Shaw with two hits apiece in triumph.
Eli Bennett gave nine earned runs on 13 hits over 2 1/3 innings for the Dragons. Trenton Werner obtained eight outs and allowed seven hits in relief.
Jefferson 4, Arcadia Valley 0
FESTUS, Mo. – Landon Taylor pitched six scoreless innings, and reached base three times on two singled and a walk on Tuesday as Jefferson blanked visiting Arcadia Valley 4-0.
Matthew Wood singled and opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly for the Blue Jays, who capitalized on an error for a 2-0 lead in the third.
Parker Taylor delivered a two-run single in the fourth while Jefferson (2-2) got additional singles from Rowen Boyer and Bo Davis.
Arcadia Valley (0-4) loaded the bases in the seventh when Stuart Anderson and Tegan Jones singled around a two-out walk to Thatcher Jones.
Wood preserved the combined shutout by induced a game-ending ground ball from opposing pitcher Evan Inman. Landon Taylor posted nine strikeouts, and allowed two hits plus five walks.
Inman went the distance in the loss on 95 total pitches, notching five strikeouts while giving six hits and two walks. Four AV errors cost him three unearned runs.
Paul Young and Thatcher Jones singled for the Tigers.
SOFTBALL
West County 10, Bourbon 9
LEADWOOD – Madison Vogelpohl induced a rundown and stole home with two outs in the seventh inning as West County rallied for a thrilling 10-9 victory over Bourbon on Tuesday.
Maylee Merrill scored the tying run moments earlier when Vogelpohl reached safely on the ninth defensive error by the visiting Warhawks.
Khloe Barnett singled twice with two runs scored to equal Vogelpohl, who also collected two RBI. Merrill added two hits plus four stolen bases.
West County (1-1) carried a 7-2 advantage after four innings, but Bourbon (0-1) stormed back with two runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to eventually lead 9-7.
Grace Lynch singled and scored on a miscue to counter in the home half, and obtained five strikeouts through the final two frames as the winning reliever.
Amillyah Ketcherside and LaMarr each provided a double while Caidence Buikema and Erin Barton singled for the Lady Bulldogs.
Ketcherside gave seven earned runs on six hits, and walked 10 with three strikeouts over five innings as the West County starter.
Annalise Gobin fanned 10 in the complete game loss, but only two runs against her were earned. She surrendered 11 hits and two walks.
Ella Biles notched three RBI for the Warhawks, and matched Gobin at 2-for-3 with two walks. Kinzey Waldron singled twice with two RBI, and Hallie Kahmke chipped in another hit.
Murphysboro 11, Ste. Genevieve 2
MURPHYSBORO, Ill. – Macie Cunningham finished 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI on Tuesday to power Murphysboro (Ill.) over Ste. Genevieve 11-2.
Arianna Smith scattered eight hits and no walks while striking out two in a complete game. The host Red Devils pulled away with five runs in the sixth inning.
Murphysboro (2-2) snapped a 1-1 tie while scoring three times in the second. Shelby Peterin singled twice with an RBI, and Brooklyn Campbell single with two walks.
Kennedy Bowen notched an RBI single in the second, and Alysa Beckermann had an RBI double in the third for Ste. Genevieve (3-2).
Briana Pfaff matched Beckermann by going 2-for-3 overall, but the Dragons were slowed by four defensive errors. Lilah Nix also produced two hits, and Addison Lorance singled.
McKenzie Greer threw 149 pitches over six innings in defeat, totaling seven strikeouts while yielding seven hits and 11 walks. Six of the 11 runs charged to her were earned.
BOYS GOLF
Central Quad
FARMINGTON – Herculaneum shot a collective 176 at Bogey Creek Golf Club to finish atop a scheduled quad match on Tuesday.
Clearwater finished with 178, and host Central turned in a 186. Steelville was also represented in the individual competition.
Treyton McFarland paced the Rebels with a four-over par 40. Cain Crocker carded 44, Jackson Morris finished with 50, and Nolan Dortch capped the team score with 52.
Potosi 189, St. James 208
ST. JAMES, Mo. – Potosi went head-to-head with St. James on Tuesday, and claimed a dual match 189-208 at St. James Golf Club.
Markus Reeves paced the Trojans with a round of 44.
BOYS TENNIS
Crystal City 8, Potosi 1
POTOSI – Crystal City dropped only six games in the doubles session, and spoiled the boys tennis season opener for Potosi with an 8-1 triumph on Tuesday.
Nathaniel DeClue paired with Molly Reiter for an 8-1 result favoring the visiting Hornets, and claimed the No. 1 singles match against Landon Isbell 8-2.
Potosi (0-1) received a No. 5 singles win from Zach Hester in an 8-5 margin.
