Adoption awareness clinic set for January

PARK HILLS — The East Missouri Action Agency will be offering an Infant Adoption Awareness training program on January 29. The one-day training session is part of the training program of the National Council for Adoption.

“The training is designed to help employees of clinics, high schools, hospitals or anyone who provides medical services or counseling for women who are at risk for unplanned pregnancy,” said Angel Prather, coordinator with the East Missouri Action Agency.

The session is free but is limited to 20 participants. Those who complete the training will receive six contact hours and will also receive a certificate for program completion.

“If this class is well-attended and if there is a need in this area for training like this, then our office can start offering the class quarterly,” Prather said.

Topics that will be addressed during the class will range from adoption knowledge and attitudes to critical thinking and caring. The adoption process will also be discussed as well as referral information.

The program is funded by a grant that was awarded to the National Council for Adoption by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
