Restaurant burglarized over the weekend

A local restaurant was burglarized over the holiday weekend and the owner is looking for answers.

Desloge Police Chief James Bullock said Rohman’s 50’s Diner was broken into Sunday and it was discovered Monday afternoon.

“Someone broke into the east side of the building and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the safe,” said Bullock. “I don’t think anything else was stolen, just the money. They entered in the side door that goes into the office facing Desloge Drive.”

Bullock added the suspect exited on the south side of the building, which would probably be the entrance door in to the diner portion of the building.

“They forced their way into the building and jimmied open the safe,” said Bullock. “When they left I guess they unbolted the front door and left. We did dust for fingerprints and checked for surveillance.”

Monday afternoon Rohman’s 50’s Diner Owner William Rohman took to Facebook looking for answers. He asks that if anybody saw anyone around the diner Sunday night to let the police know.

Rohman took to Facebook again on Tuesday thanking everyone who offered kind words of support. He went on to say the police in Desloge are awesome.

“In the meantime, we have a community to serve, a restaurant to open, second chances to be earned and lived,” he wrote. “With my past I am uniquely qualified to understand, and one thing I know for certain is that, whoever did this, or does things like this, suffer. They are hurting, suffering, people, screaming at the world for help. I don’t wish anymore suffering, yet release from that suffering.”

“Take it from someone who lived things like this,” Rohman wrote. “The hurt they cause is the hurt they feel. Whoever did this is someone that is hurting too much to be happy, hurting too bad to have (conscience) until after the fact, but not enough to face what they did. This in no way excuses the behavior. I simply hope that help is in their future before they do something so bad that it costs them the rest of their lives … Sometimes we make mistakes so devastating that they just can’t be fixed. Can’t be lived with.”

Anyone with any information on the burglary is asked to call the Desloge Police Department at 573-431-1463 or 431-3131.

Money was reportedly stolen from a safe at Rohman’s 50’s Diner in Desloge this weekend.
