ASK DENTIST Dr. John S. Adams, DDS Is dental insurance worth getting? Overall I’d say yes, but there are some limitations to be aware of. Dental insurance monthly premiums tend to be fairly inexpensive and it aids with the cost of many dental services. Most will provide you with two dental cleanings and a yearly set of x-rays at no additional cost. They also generally cover a percentage of the cost for reparative work such as fillings, crowns and root canals. If you have major dental work needed, dental insurance can help alleviate some of that cost. However, they generally have a coverage cap. For example, some will cover 50% of major restorative work, like a crown, but only up to $1,000, leaving you responsible for the other 50%, plus anything over the cap. Before signing up for any insurance plan make certain you read the clauses, understand the coverage amounts and know the small print. Many offices like ours have in-office discount plans that allow you to pay an upfront fee and get discounted services for a year. If you have a dental office you plan to remain with, this can be a great option. 573.783.4100 731 W. Main St
