The Bonne Terre Chamber held its general investors meeting late last week at the Family Fun Center. The chamber heard from new North County Football Coach Dave Dallas, who is in the process of moving into the area from Kansas City where he has coached for the past 25 years.
“It was time for me to make a change,” said Dallas. “Where I was going to go or what I was going to do I didn’t know at that point in time of my life. I was an athletic director and head football coach and I was really getting burned out.
"If I would have stayed where I was at I wouldn’t be an athletic director in another two years. We wanted to relocate back towards our family. I’m from Herculaneum, my wife is from Festus, and so this was just a good fit for us.”
Dallas said his plan is to build a football program at North County and he will have a system that they plan to run.
“The entire football league will use it. The junior high will run our offense and our defense all the way through,” said Dallas. “We don’t have just a high school football program, we have a football league and that is what is important.”
North County Athletic Director Ryun Casten said Dallas has already made an impact on not only the football players but the school as a whole.
“There were two students that got into a scuffle in the hall and one was a football player,” said Casten. “One of our senior captains grabbed that young man and asked what he was doing. He told them that they are football players and got him out of the situation before things got worse.
"That is the kind of impact that Coach Dallas has had on those kids, teaching them what they need to do and we all know it is hard confronting a friend like that letting them know they are doing something wrong.”
Several members of the Desloge Chamber of Commerce were in attendance during Friday's meeting. Afterward both chamber groups participated in the ribbon cutting on North County’s new multi-purpose field.
