Books donated to Fredericktown library

A set of ten books has been donated to the Fredericktown Public Library in memory of Mr. Allen Helms by Mr. and Mrs. LeBron Holbrook. A strong lover of God and Country, Mr. Helms’ life reflected military discipline and deference tempered with the grace of Christian ethics. A veteran of the Korean War, he sorrowfully lamented the division of that country and the takeover of the northern region by the communists. When Mr. Helms was told of the South Koreans’ appreciation for the Americans, who enabled them to be free, he was always elated and very proud of their rise to the tenth wealthiest nation in the world!

The books donated are these:

1. “You Can Still Trust the Communists to be Communists” by Fred C. Schwarz and David A. Noebel.

2. “The Naked Truth,” an update of “The Naked Communist” edited by David A. Noebel.

3. “Buried Alive: The Startling Truth about Neanderthal Man” by Jack Cuozzo. This is a true account of an American orthodontist’s discoveries and experiences while examining the skulls of early man. The seduction of evolutionary science and how facts can be construed to fit a false theory are themes of this book, which is accompanied by a CD. The disc features a fascinating interview between the author and Dr. D. James Kennedy.

4. “When a Nation Forgets God: 7 Lessons We Must Learn From Nazi Germany” by Erwin Lutzer.

5. “An American Amnesia: How the U.S. Congress Forced the Surrenders of South Vietnam and Cambodia” by Bruce Herschensohn. This short book about a long war will help to clarify the chaotic confusion caused by the media during that time.

6. “The Dawn’s Early Light” by Walter Lord. The personnel at Ft. McHenry in Baltimore recommend this book to those interested in the War of 1812 and the story of our national anthem. The writer is a journalist, who made history come alive. The juxtaposing of the American account with that of the British required extensive research, here and abroad, making for a very interesting read.

Beautifully illustrated children’s books being donated are: “By the Dawn’s Early Light,” “The Biggest and Best Flag that Ever Flew,” “One Nation Under God: America’s Lost Dream,” and “America: A Patriotic Primer.”
