The Precision Eye Care Tennis Tournament (PECTT) was held June 25-28 at the new courts in Engler Park, with adult and junior players from Farmington, Bonne Terre, Desloge, Park Hills, Festus, Herculaneum, Cape Girardeau, Ironton, Jackson, Potosi, Mountain View, Independence and even Indianapolis, Indiana.

Executive Director Dr. John Fitz provided tournament shirts to all participants as well as awards for each division’s top winners. He will be donating the $10 entry fees to the Farmington and North County high school tennis programs.

“The tournament was special this year because it was the inaugural year on the new courts in Engler Park,” Fitz said. “The city of Farmington’s electric crew worked hard to get the lights up and working, and the parks and recreation crew cleaned up and prepared the grounds for the tournament. We really appreciated their efforts.”

Tournament coordinator Julie Powers said that with the new courts and lighting system, the tennis community is set to expand over the next few years, but not just in Farmington.

“There are multiple tennis “meet-ups” scheduled for local players,” stated Powers. “All male players are encouraged to meet Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the North County High School courts and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Engler Park courts. Depending on the number of people attending and experience level, players will be matched up for singles, doubles and/or Australian doubles (one player vs. two). All players (male and female) are asked to meet at the Engler Park courts Sundays at 6 p.m. to be matched up for play, including mixed doubles.”

The tournament is slated for the first weekend following Father’s Day each year. The 2016 tournament will be June 23-26.
