The Fredericktown High School Football Team lost its homecoming contest, 42-16 to Potosi, Friday night.

The Cats opened the game with a long touchdown and closed out the scoring with an even longer score. In between, Potosi scored six times, while holding FHS to just a field goal.

Fredericktown won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. Senior Mike Parrish took the kick on the kick on the Cats' 18 yard line and burst through a crease near the 30. He out-maneuvered the Trojans kicker at the 40 and out-raced everyone to the end zone. Colten Jordan's PAT made it 7-0 with 11:47 to play in the first quarter.

Potosi scored with 5:15 to play in the quarter, but the PAT was no good. The Cats still led 7-6. The lead lasted through the end of the quarter.

Potosi took the lead for good with a touchdown with 8:14 to play in the first half, making it 12-7. The Trojans added two more scores and a pair of 2-point conversion to to take a 28-7 lead into the break. The Trojans added a touchdown 15 seconds into the third quarter and another later in the period to make it 42-7.

Fredericktown got a 36-yard field goal from Jordan with 8:06 to play in the game. 

With 5:30 to play, the Cats took over at their six yard line. A pair of penalties gave the Cats the ball at their own 2 yard line. Quarterback Seth Laut dropped back into his end zone and fired a pass to Ethan Flanagan who ran all the way to the end zone for a 98-yard touchdown.

The Cats fall to 1-4 with the loss. Potosi improves to 3-2. Friday night, the Cats host De Soto. It will be the final home game of the season for Fredericktown and Senior Night for the Cats.

De Soto is 2-3 and coming off a 10-0 loss to Festus.
