The Fredericktown High School boys basketball team pulled off a pair of upsets on its way to the consolation championship game of the Central Christmas Tournament, last week.

The No. 14 seed Cats lost their tourney opener, 64-24 to No. 3 Farmington, Dec. 27.

Thursday, the Cats defeated No. 6 Perryville, 56-50. The Cats had lost 67-40 to the Pirates, Dec. 8.

Perryville held a 12-11 lead after one quarter. Seth Miller scored seven in the second quarter as the Cats took a 24-22 lead at halftime.

The game was tied 35-35 heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Colton Rehkop hit three 3-pointers, Miller scored five points, and Dylan St. Clair made six of six free throw attempts, as the Cats scored 21 points.

For the game, Miller and Rehkop each scored 18. Logan Winkelman scored 11, and St. Clair had nine.

Friday, the Cats defeated No. 10 Arcadia Valley, 58-53.

Fredericktown dominated the early scoring, jumping to a 21-9 advantage and leading 21-11 after one quarter.

The Tigers scored the first 11 points of the second quarter capping a 13-0 run and taking a 22-21 lead. The Cats responded with a pair of Winkelman corner three-pointers 20 seconds apart, sparking a 12-0 Cats’ run. Fredericktown led 33-22 at halftime.

The Cats maintained a 43-34 lead with 3:37 left in the third quarter, but The Tigers scored eight straight to end the period.

Fredericktown led 43-42 heading into the fourth quarter. The period opened with a Winkelman 3-point play. St. Clair gave the Cats a 49-42 lead with a 3-pointer. The Tigers then scored seven straight and led 51-49 with 2:02 to play in the game.

Miller hit two free throws with 1:24 left to tie the game. He made two more with 50 seconds left to give FHS the lead and added another two free throws with 33 seconds left to make it 55-51. The Tigers scored with 24.2 left to make it 55-53, but St. Clair nailed a pair of free throws with 18.3 left and Winkelman sealed the victory with a steal and layup with 1.2 left.

Miller led the Cats with 18 points, including the six straight clutch free throws down the stretch. Winkelman added 14 points, and Grant Shankle and Rehkop each added nine.

In the Consolation Championship, Saturday, the Cats lost 73-39 to No. 8 seed De Soto.

The Dragons led 21-11 after one quarter. The Cats got as close as 25-20 on a Winkelman basket in the second quarter. The Dragons finished strong and pulled ahead 43-26.

Winkelman led the Blackcats (5-8) with 12 points, Shankle and Rehkop each had nine.

The Cats host Farmington, Friday.
